Synthetic Derivatives of Abietic Acid with Radical Scavenging Activity
Journal of Natural Products, 2001In this work, studies on the arylation of anilines derived from dehydroabietic acid, the main component of disproportionated rosin, are presented. The redox properties of the new diarylamines were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, and their free radical scavenging activity was tested by reduction of the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical ...

The kinetics of nitrite scavenging by hydrazine and hydrazoic acids at high acidities
Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry, 1977Abstract The kinetics of the reaction of nitrous acid with hydrazine have been measured in perchloric and nitric acids, up to concentrations of 2.8 M, while the nitrous acid-hydrazoic acid reaction has been studied up to 4.2 M perchloric acid. Literature results on the efficiency of various nitrite scavengers in moderately concentrated mineral acid ...

Hypochlorous acid scavenging properties of local mediterranean plant foods
Lipids, 2004AbstractOxidative modification of low density lipoprotein (LDL) is involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease, which are low in the Mediterranean area possibly due to a high dietary proportion of plant food. Ethanolic extracts were prepared from more than 120 Mediterranean edible plants collected in remote areas (which ...

Free Radical Scavenging Properties of Conjugated Linoleic Acids
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2001Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) were investigated for free radical scavenging properties against the stable 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl radical (DPPH.) by electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometry and spectrophotometric methods. ESR results demonstrated that CLA directly reacted and quenched free DPPH radicals in benzene, while spectrophotometric ...

Ascorbic acid: a scavenger of superoxide radical.
Acta vitaminologica et enzymologica, 1984The second order rate constant for the reaction between ascorbic acid and superoxide at pH 7.4 using the xanthine-xanthine oxidase system was estimated to be 5.4 x 10(6) M-1 sec-1. The results indicate that the efficacies of superoxide dismutase and ascorbic acid for catalyzing the decay of superoxide radical in animal tissues are similar.

[Uric acid as a scavenger in oxidative stress].
Orvosi hetilap, 1999Uric acid, the naturally occurring product of purine metabolism, is widely used as a diagnostic parameter in different diseases. The concentration of uric acid may vary between broad ranges without causing symptoms, like idiopathic hyperuricemia, which behind metabolic disorders were always suggested.
