Diaryldistyrylpyrazines: Solvatochromic and Acidochromic Fluorophores

European Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2013
AbstractDiaryldimethylpyrazines are the starting materials for the synthesis of C2‐symmetric donor‐ or acceptor‐substituted distyrylpyrazines. The optical properties of these cruciform‐shaped dyes are dominated by the distyrylpyrazine units; the photophysics is controlled by the styryl substitution, the diaryl substituents on the central pyrazine only ...

Smart Organic Materials with Acidochromic Properties

Current Organic Chemistry, 2020
Smart materials displaying changes in color and optical properties in response to acid stimuli are known as acidochromic materials. The recent progress and emerging trends in the field of smart organic materials with acidochromic properties, reported in the last seven years, are presented herein. The molecular design of acidochromic organic materials,

Acidochromicity of Bisarylethynylbenzenes: Hydroxy versus Dialkylamino Substituents

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2009
This contribution investigates the electronic difference of dibutylamino/dibutylammonium and phenol/phenolate groups in four simple distyrylbenzenes and bisarylethynylbenzenes. The compounds and their protonated and deprotonated species, respectively, were investigated by UV-vis and emission spectroscopies.

Self-healing and acidochromic polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel reinforced by regenerated cellulose

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2021
Recently, integration of self-healing, color-tunable, sol-gel converted properties into hydrogel has attracted interest for preparing a reinforced multifunctional hydrogel. Herein, acidochromic regenerated cellulose (ARC) was incorporated into the polyvinyl alcohol/borax (PB) matrix for constructing a tough, self-healing, multicolor and sol-gel ...

Modelling the acidochromism of pyridylazulenes

Chemical Physics Letters, 2008
Abstract The structure of six recently synthesised neutral or charged 1-pyridylazulenes and 1,3-dipyridylazulene have been investigated with the PCM–PBE0/6-311++G(2d,2p) approach. Our calculations demonstrate that several conformers of similar energies might coexist in the experimental conditions.

Oxidative cross-coupling of quinoxalinones with indoles enabled by acidochromism

Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2023
We report a new gate for changing photo inactive compounds into photocatalysts with easy operation, good tolerance of functional groups, and considerable yield. We demonstrate the synthesis of the natural products Azacephalandole A and Cephalandole A in high yields.

Elucidating the Mechanisms of Acidochromic Spiropyran-Merocyanine Interconversion

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2007
The thermal and photochemical processes associated with the acid-induced conversions of 6-nitroBIPS, SP-1, to form the protonated merocyanine (MC-OH+) were investigated via UV/vis spectrophotometric studies in acetone. It was found that the mechanism of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA)-induced ring-opening of the SP and the rate of MC-OH+ formation follows a
