Thermochromism and Acidochromism in Substituted Polyanilines
1987Conjugated polymers exhibit interesting properties as materials for rechargeable batteries [1–3]. modified electrodes [4], and electrochromic display devices [5–6]. The last application involves a reversible color change depending on the redox state of the polymer; the green oxidized polyaniline films can be changed to transparent yellow by reduction ...

Light‐ and Humidity‐Induced Motion of an Acidochromic Film
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2015AbstractA smart acidochromic agarose‐based film with 1,4‐bis(para‐hydroxystyryl)benzene as the pH‐responsive fluorophore was prepared. This film can simultaneously harness the chemical potential of light and aerial humidity gradients to convert them into mechanical work.

Four styryl phenanthroline derivatives as excellent acidochromic probes
Dyes and Pigments, 2019Abstract Four newly-synthetized styryl-phenanthroline derivatives were found to exhibit great acidochromism starting from neutral pH values down to negative H0. The aqueous solution of all of the four molecules features a yellow color at nearly neutral pH, but when the acidity of the solution increases, the color changes and, depending on the ...

4nπ Stable Multitasking Azapentacene: Acidochromism, Hole Mobility, and Visible Light Photoresponse
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2022Herein, we describe the synthesis, characterization, and optoelectronic investigation of a stable 4nπ dihydrotetraazapentacene derivative. The neutral dihydrotetraazapentacene contains a 24π-conjugated N-heteroacene core with two phenyl pendants appended thereof.

Croconines: new acidochromic dyes for the near infrared region
Tetrahedron Letters, 2002Abstract The synthesis and characterization of new nor-indocrococyanine dyes are described. The acid form of the obtained dyes has an absorbance maxima in the 759–800 nm range. They present spectral changes at pH 6.5–9.7.

Design of acidochromic dyes for facile preparation of pH sensor layers
Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2008Eight new acidochromic dyes have been synthesised that can be used for optically monitoring pH in the range from 3 to 12. Their corresponding pK(a) values have been both measured and calculated theoretically by means of density functional theory. The synthesis of these new dyes is facile without the need for chromatographic purification.

A photochromic–acidochromic HCl fluorescent probe. An unexpected chloride-directed recognition
The Analyst, 2016A fluorescent-chromogenic Schiff base probe displays multiresponsive properties and specific interactions with HCl giving an acidofluorochromic response to light (photochromism) and the nature of the solvent (solvatochromism).
