Optimizing volatile fatty acid production in partial acidogenesis of swine wastewater

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2004
This research has been conducted based on the fact that acetic and butyric acids are favorable substrates for methanogens, and that a low level of propionic acid production during acidogenesis minimizes the inhibition effect on methanogenic growth. Raw swine wastewater was pretreated with ammonia stripping to enhance acidogenesis.

Enhanced biobutanol production from rice straw with a two‐stage packed‐bed fermenter coupled with in‐line gas stripping

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 100, Issue 7, Page 1393-1402, July 2025.
Abstract BACKGROUND This study describes the operation of continuous packed‐bed reactors containing Clostridium beijerinckii DSM 6422 attached to granular activated carbon to improve butanol productivity and sugar consumption from rice straw hydrolysate. RESULTS A single‐stage fermenter, which was evaluated at dilution rates ranging from 0.3 to 1.8 h−1,

Aluminum-phosphorus complex mediated anaerobic digestion of waste activated sludge: Physicochemical reconfiguration, interfacial thermodynamics, and microbial mechanisms

open access: yesWater Research X
Aluminum-phosphorus (Al-P) compounds are byproducts of chemical phosphorus removal in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), resulting in their accumulation in waste activated sludge (WAS).

Assessment of Chemical Inhibitor Addition to Improve the Gas Production from Biowaste [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The coexistence of sulphate-reducing bacteria and methanogenic archaea in the reactors during the anaerobic digestion from sulphate-containing waste could favor the accumulation of sulfide on the biogas, and therefore reduce its quality.

Modeling of Anaerobic Digestion of Complex Substrates [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, 2003
A structured mathematical model of anaerobic conversion of complex organic materials in non-ideally cyclic-batch reactors for biogas production has been developed. The  model is based on multiple-reaction stoichiometry (enzymatic hydrolysis, acidogenesis,
