Modeling Physiological Differences in Cell Populations: Acetone-Butanol-Ethanol (ABE)-Fermentation in a Cascade of Continuous Stirred Tank Reactors

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2016
Acetone-Butanol-Ethanol (ABE)-fermentation with Clostridium acetobutylicum is a biphasic fermentation process. The formation of organic acids in the so called acidogenesis has to precede the economically interesting phase of solvent formation called ...

Integrated and closed‐loop biorefinery strategies for efficient waste valorization and biofuel production

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract Advancements in biofuel production technologies are essential for reducing global dependence on fossil fuels and addressing their overexploitation. Many valuable components of biomass, such as cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, remain underused in traditional biorefineries, which typically rely on a single feedstock to produce a primary ...

Autophagy is important to the acidogenic metabolism of Aspergillus niger.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Significant phenotypic overlaps exist between autophagy and acidogenesis in Aspergillus niger. The possible role of autophagy in the acidogenic growth and metabolism of this fungus was therefore examined and the movement of cytosolic EGFP to vacuoles ...

Acidogenesis in Relation to In-Reactor Granule Yield

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 1992
A systematic study of in-reactor granule yield data was set up in the laboratory. Methanogenic granular sludge growth in fed batch shake flasks for different substrates appeared to decrease with the energy content of the substrate and required the presence of a mixing force.
