Genotypic and phenotypic characterization of the Acinetobacter calcoaceticus–Acinetobacter baumannii complex with the proposal of Acinetobacter pittii sp. nov. (formerly Acinetobacter genomic species 3) and Acinetobacter nosocomialis sp. nov. (formerly Acinetobacter genomic species 13TU)

Research in Microbiology, 2011
Acinetobacter genomic species (gen. sp.) 3 and gen. sp. 13TU are increasingly recognized as clinically important taxa within the Acinetobacter calcoaceticus-Acinetobacter baumannii (ACB) complex. To define the taxonomic position of these genomic species, we investigated 80 strains representing the known diversity of the ACB complex.

Treatment of Acinetobacter infections

Expert Opinion on Investigational Drugs, 1997
Gram-negative non-fermentative aerobic bacilli are becoming increasingly more involved in nosocomial infections. It has generally been recognised that the members of the Acinetobacter genus are among the most common agents responsible for severe hospital infections; their clinical importance has increased due to the development of antibacterial ...

Typing of Acinetobacter [PDF]

open access: possible, 1991
In the last 25 years, outbreaks of Acinetobacter infection have been a growing concern in hospitals (Bergogne-Berezin et al., 1987, this volume; Noble, this volume). These infections can be difficult to treat since strains are commonly resistant to multiple antimicrobial agents.

Acinetobacter bacteriocin typing

Journal of Hospital Infection, 1986
A technique for typing Acinetobacter sp. by bacteriocin production has been developed. One hundred and seventy-six cultures from patients in outbreaks, in the community and environmental sources were identified, tested for sensitivity to gentamicin and bacteriocin typed; 154 were A. anitratus and the remainder A.lwoffi.
