Counterfactual Explanations in Education: A Systematic Review

open access: yesWIREs Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, Volume 16, Issue 1, March 2026.
Main challenges on counterfactual explanations in education. ABSTRACT Counterfactuals are a type of explanations based on hypothetical scenarios used in Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI), showing what changes in input variables could have led to different outcomes in predictive problems.

Identifying Drugs Associated With Parkinson's Disease Risk Using Machine Learning

open access: yesBasic &Clinical Pharmacology &Toxicology, Volume 138, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Machine learning (ML)–based methods have been proposed as a potential approach for identifying candidate drugs to be repurposed as disease‐modifying treatments for Parkinson's disease (PD). We applied an ML‐based signal detection method to identify drugs associated with PD and evaluated the method's generalizability.

Securing the Unseen: A Comprehensive Exploration Review of AI‐Powered Models for Zero‐Day Attack Detection

open access: yesExpert Systems, Volume 43, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Zero‐day exploits remain challenging to detect because they often appear in unknown distributions of signatures and rules. The article entails a systematic review and cross‐sectional synthesis of four fundamental model families for identifying zero‐day intrusions, namely, convolutional neural networks (CNN), deep neural networks (DNN ...

The American Black Bear (Ursus americanus) as an Apex Predator: Investigating the Ecological Role of the World's Most Abundant Large Carnivore

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 56, Issue 1, March 2026.
Black bears as apex predators. American black bears can (1) produce top‐down effects on ungulates equal to or exceeding those of typical apex predators and (2) modify the spatiotemporal behaviour of other carnivores, including pumas and coyotes. We argue that the term ‘apex predator’ is highly context dependent and not a species‐wide status.

Incidence and oncologic outcomes of patients with prostate‐specific antigen persistence after radical prostatectomy

open access: yesCancer, Volume 132, Issue 4, 15 February 2026.
Abstract Background Patients with postradical prostatectomy (RP) prostate‐specific antigen (PSA) persistence (PPP) have been grouped with patients experiencing biochemical recurrence (BCR) in guidelines and clinical trials, potentially masking their distinct, unfavorable outcomes.
