Acne inversa (usually but incorrectly termed hidradenitis suppurativa) is a serious form of acne in the skin folds, especially the axillae and the groins, with inflammatory nodules, abcesses, fistulas, scarring and comedones. The prevalence in the general population is 1%. Acne inversa of the groins is far more common in women than in men.
