Secondary Dispersal of Pasania edulis Acorns by Apodemus speciosus into a Coniferous Plantation.

open access: yesJournal of the Japanese Forest Society, 2007

Acorn dispersal and its consequences for forest stand regeneration and expansion.

open access: yes, 2021
La dispersion des graines génère le patron initial de la régénération des plantes, avec des conséquences sur l'ensemble des processus démographiques subséquents.

Revisiting the predation paradox for the Wood Thrush, a declining Neotropical migrant

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Despite an increased density of mid‐trophic level predators in urban and suburban areas compared to rural areas, the survival of smaller prey animals, including the eggs and chicks of nesting songbirds, often remains relatively high in these areas.

Variation in Climate Shapes Seedling Recruitment Along Resource Gradients in a Northern Hardwood Forest

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 2, June 2026.
Seedling counts over 26 years revealed that wetter‐site temperate tree species struggle to recruit in warmer, drier years, whereas drier‐site species are more climate‐tolerant. Shadier forests buffered seedlings from heat and drought. Local soils and canopy cover strongly shaped outcomes, revealing considerable differences among species in climate ...

Context-dependent seed dispersal by a scatter-hoarding corvid

open access: yes, 2016
1. Corvids (crows, jays, magpies and nutcrackers) are important dispersers of large-seeded plants. Studies on captive or supplemented birds suggest that they flexibly adjust their scatter-hoarding behavior to the context of social dynamics and relative ...

The comparative effectiveness of rodents and dung beetles as local seed dispersers in Mediterranean oak forests.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The process of seed dispersal of many animal-dispersed plants is frequently mediated by a small set of biotic agents. However, the contribution that each of these dispersers makes to the overall recruitment may differ largely, with important ecological ...

Shaping Function: Polymeric 3D Systems With Unconventional Geometries for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 33, 12 June 2026.
Particle shape is a key design parameter governing biological interactions. Advances in fabrication enable precise control over anisotropy and compartmentalization, allowing modulation of cellular uptake, transport, and biodistribution, ultimately enhancing therapeutic performance. ABSTRACT Polymer geometry is a primary determinant of physical behavior

Spatial-scale dependencies in the predation of seeds by rodents [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Summary 1. Previous studies have shown rates of seed predation in deciduous woodland to be high (on average 60%) and extremely variable in space and time. 2.

Relationships Between European Wildcats and Domestic Cats in an Area of Sympatry: Exploring Key Conservation Questions on Hybridization and Disease Transmission

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 29, Issue 3, Page 321-333, June 2026.
We have found evidence of behavioural barriers for both hybridization and disease transmission between European wildcats and domestic cats. This includes hierarchical interspecies exclusion enforced by wildcats, as well as sexual selection exerted by wildcat females.

Multiple global‐change drivers and cascading effects in Mediterranean ecosystems: Lessons from an iconic national park

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 6, June 2026.
Mediterranean ecosystems face complex, multi‐trophic impacts from global‐change drivers, yet responses are often studied in isolation. Using the Doñana Protected Area as a case study, we illustrate how anthropogenic pressures on key species like cork oaks and rabbits, as well as increases in species like wild boar and invasive crayfish, lead to ...
