Acoustic-gravity waves in a viscous and thermally conducting isothermal atmosphere (part III: for arbitrary Prandtl number)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1997
In this paper we will investigate the combined effect of Newtonian cooling, viscosity and thermal condition on upward propagating acoustic waves in an isothermal atmosphere. In part one of this series we considered the case of large Prandtl number, while

The Sounds of the Little and Big Bangs

open access: yesUniverse, 2017
Studies on heavy ion collisions have discovered that tiny fireballs of a new phase of matter—quark gluon plasma (QGP)—undergo an explosion, called the Little Bang. In spite of its small size, not only is it well described by hydrodynamics, but even small

Response of the ionosphere to natural and man-made acoustic sources [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 1995
A review is presented of the effects influencing the ionosphere which are caused by acoustic emission from different sources (chemical and nuclear explosions, bolides, meteorites, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, launches of spacecrafts ...

Experimental Study on the Enhancement of Heat Transfer Performance in Sintered‐Core Heat Pipes Using CuO Nanofluid

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study presents the design and construction of an experimental system for evaluating the thermal performance of heat pipes, using sintered‐wick heat pipes charged with CuO nanofluids. The device used in this study is a sintered‐wick heat pipe, in which the liquid return is driven by capillary forces within the porous wick structure.

Spectrum of the seismic-electromagnetic and acoustic waves caused by seismic and volcano activity [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2005
Modeling of the spectrum of the seismo-electromagnetic and acoustic waves, caused by seismic and volcanic activity, has been done. This spectrum includes the Electromagnetic Emission (EME, due to fracturing piezoelectrics in rocks) and the Acoustic ...

Acoustic-gravity waves in a viscous and thermally conducting isothermal atmosphere

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1995
In this paper we will investigate the effect of Newtonian cooling on the propagation of acoustic-gravity waves in a viscous and thermally conducting isothermal atmosphere for large Prandtl number and for an arbitrary values of Newtonian cooling ...

Plasmakristall‐4 Experiment: 10 Years of Operation in Orbit

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plasmakristall‐4 (PK‐4) is a microgravity complex plasma laboratory operated for 10 years on board the International Space Station. Its main purpose is the particle‐resolved investigation of generic condensed matter phenomena using strongly coupled suspensions of microparticles immersed in low‐pressure gas‐discharge plasmas.

Perturbation in the atmospheric acoustic field from a large offshore wind farm in the presence of surface gravity waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this study a quantitatively reliable approximation of atmospheric sound wave propagation is given in the presence of a large wind farm. Rough sea surface is used as lower boundary condition at the sea surface, and an acoustic point source located at ...

Dynamical properties of acoustic-gravity waves in the atmosphere [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 2019
We study the dynamical behaviors of a system of five coupled nonlinear equations that describes the dynamics of acoustic-gravity waves in the atmosphere. A linear stability analysis together with the analysis of Lyapunov exponents spectra are performed to show that the system can develop from ordered structures to chaotic states.
