Acoustic emission properties of callus

Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1981
11 New Zealand white rabbits with 45 degree midshaft oblique osteotomies were stressed in shear while monitoring acoustic emission events. The ringdown counting method demonstrated a reasonably reproducible pattern when counting events against load; that is, each fracture remained essentially quiet until over 50% of load to failure had been applied ...

Acoustic emission in ceramic actuators

Ferroelectrics, 1988
Abstract Two types of Acoustic Emission (AE) are possible in piezoelectric/electrostrictive actuators. One is the so-called normal AE, occurring when a piezoelectric actuator is driven by a bipolar electric field, and the other is an abnormal AE, occurring during actual breakdown of the actuator.

A cochlear model for acoustic emissions

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1988
Variability in cochlear emission properties among different species, particularly humans and small mammals, and within individuals in the same species, is modeled by a cochlear nonlinear transmission line. The difference between humans and animals is largely explained by a lower cochlear input impedance in human ears than in cats, gerbils, or ...

Acoustic Emission: Theory and Practice

NDT & E International, 1988
ABSTRACT In the 23 years since the first documented use of acoustic emission (AE) as an NDT technique, there have been considerable advances in the theoretical understanding of how stressed defects generate elastic waves and how these waves propagate to transducers attached to the specimen.

Amplitude measurement in acoustic emission

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1985
A circuit capable of measuring the amplitude of continuous emission and acoustic bursts is presented. The circuit shows linear behavior (+/−5%) over a dynamic range in excess of 65 dB, for frequencies up to 250 KHz. Possible applications are discussed.

Numerical Calculations of Acoustic Emission

Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, 1987
Two computer programs which solve the partial differential equations for sound propagation numerically are applied to the study of problems in acoustic emission. The programs use finite difference and finite element techniques to calculate sound fields due to distributions of sources in complex geometries in two dimensions. The potential to handle more

Acoustic Emission in Composite Laminates

Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, 1998
The response of a laminated plate to internal acoustic emission events is examined in detail. The plate consists of four layers of a unidirectional fiber composite material arranged in a cross-ply configuration. The sources considered include a vertical line couple, a horizontal line couple and a line double couple without moment.

The effect of geometry on acoustic emission

1980
Acoustic emissions are impulsive elastic waves which are part of the total energy release from many metallurgical phenomena. The emissions signature carry information about the source mechanisms and the present interest of investigators is to identify the acoustic emission sources in terms of material fatigue and fracture parameters in order to ...
