A negative high-quality, high-resolution, contrast-enhanced MRI scan is excellent evidence that a patient does not have an AN. Most nerve sheath tumors have a characteristic appearance, and when a tumor is detected there is seldom any doubt as to the identity of the lesion.

Electromagnetic acoustic imaging
IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2013Electromagnetic acoustic imaging (EMAI) is a new imaging technique that uses long-wavelength RF electromagnetic (EM) waves to induce ultrasound emission. Signal intensity and image contrast have been found to depend on spatially varying electrical conductivity of the medium in addition to conventional acoustic properties.

Acoustic Waves in Medical Imaging and Diagnostics
Up until about two decades ago acoustic imaging and ultrasound imaging were synonymous. The term ultrasonography, or its abbreviated version sonography, meant an imaging modality based on the use of ultrasonic compressional bulk waves.
