Shock-induced bubble collapse near solid materials: effect of acoustic impedance
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2020The fluid dynamics of a bubble collapsing near an elastic or viscoelastic material is coupled with the mechanical response of the material. We apply a multiphase fluid–solid coupled computational model to simulate the collapse of an air bubble in water ...

Dynamics of acoustic impedance matching layers in contactless ultrasonic power transfer systems
Smart materials and structures (Print), 2020The acoustic impedance mismatch between transducer materials and medium in ultrasonic power transfer systems narrows the transduction bandwidth and causes losses through the back reflection of progressive pressure waves at the boundary between the ...

Acoustic impedance sensing based on forward stimulated Brillouin scattering (FSBS) in fiber has attracted the attention of researchers in recent years. Here, we propose a novel, to the best of our knowledge, multipoint sensing scheme based on FSBS, which

Experimental study of nonlinear acoustic impedance of circular orifices.
Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2020The results of experimental studies of the acoustic impedance of orifices in the plate in the impedance tube, using the transfer functions method in a wide range of sound pressure levels, are presented.

In this work we present a new hybrid imaging technique that combines electrical impedance tomography (EIT) with acoustic tomography. The novel technique makes use of the fact that the absorbed electrical energy inside the body raises its temperature, thus leading to expansion effects.

Autoregressive recovery of the acoustic impedance [PDF]
This paper presents a method of recovering the acoustic impedance from reflection seismograms using autoregressive (AR) modeling, an approach originally applied to deconvolution by Lines and Clayton (1977). The algorithm which we describe is novel both in the manner in which the missing low‐ and high‐frequency information is predicted, and in the fact

The acoustic impedance of liquid 3He [PDF]
Abstract The acoustic impedance Z of liquid 3 He has been measured at a frequency of 122 Mc/s. The transition to the zero sound region occurs at a mean temperature of 34 m°K. The total change in the value of Z /ϱ is 14 ± 3 m sec -1 , where ϱ is the density of the helium. These results are compared with other measurements of the transition to zero

Acoustic Impedance Transformation
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1987To the Editor .—I read with interest Dr Goode's 1 commentary on the potential for otosurgery to transform "tin" ears into "gold" ears. The author asserts that our conventional beliefs about the middle ear performing acoustic impedance transformation between the atmosphere and the inner ear may be incorrect.

Acoustic Neuromas and the Acoustic Impedance of the Ear
Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1973The acoustic impedance at the tympanic membrane was measured at frequencies in the range 100–1000 Hz and found to be abnormal on the affected side in four patients with acoustic neuroma. In all four the resistance was abnormally high at low frequencies on the affected side, and in three the reactance of the affected ear was raised relative to that of ...
