Controllable acoustic properties of tungsten-epoxy composites prepared using a shaker-type ball milling process

open access: yesResults in Materials
Tungsten-epoxy composites are often applied as backing layer substrates in piezoelectric-based ultrasonic transducers. Control of its acoustic impedance is crucial to customize the specifications of fabricated ultrasonic transducers, especially for ...

On Wave Impedance and Specific Impedance of Materials in Acoustics [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1956
If impedance is defined as an operator that permits one to go from an “effect” back to a “cause” (in hydrodynamics, from velocity to pressure), it is seen that the impedance field of a wave is constant in the case of a plane wave, but only in this case.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Acoustic metafluid for independent manipulation of the mass density and bulk modulus

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2023
Tuning the mass density and bulk modulus independently is the key to manipulate the propagation of sound wave. Acoustic metamaterials provide a feasible method to realize various acoustic parameters.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Lithological Study of Mishrif, Rumaila, Ahmadi and Mauddud Formations Using Vp/ Vs Ratio, Acoustic Impedance and Well Logging at Amara Oil Field, Southern Iraq

open access: yesIraqi Geological Journal, 2021
The lithology of four formations from the Cretaceous period (Mishrif, Rumaila, Ahmadi, and Mauddud) was evaluated using the Acoustic Impedance and Vp/Vs ratio cross plot from Rock Physics Templates.

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.

Relating Geotechnical Sediment Properties and Low Frequency CHIRP Sonar Measurements

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Low frequency acoustic methods are a common tool for seabed stratigraphy mapping. Due to the efficiency in seabed mapping compared to geotechnical methods, estimating geotechnical sediment properties from acoustic surveying is attractive for many ...

Analysis of Sound Absorbing Properties of Activated Carbon Fiber Felts Based on Density Change

open access: yesNantong Daxue xuebao. Ziran kexue ban, 2021
In order to study the sound absorbing properties of activated carbon fiber felts, three kinds of activated carbon fiber felts with different densities were selected, and the double channel acoustic analyzer with impedance tube was used to test the ...

Broadband suppression of aerodynamic pressure on the high-speed bluff body surface with periodic square-cavity acoustic metasurface

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2021
In this paper, a Multiphysics coupling simulation model of flow and acoustics is proposed using COMSOL software, and its results are verified by comparing with experimental results of others. Then, the aerodynamic pressure above the bluff body surface at
