Construction and testing of a modern acoustic impedance tube

open access: closed, 2001
The acoustic impedance of a material describes its reflective and absorptive properties. Acoustic impedance may be measured in a wide variety of ways. This thesis describes the construction and testing of an acoustic impedance measurement tube which employs modem Fourier Transform techniques.

Wideband Acoustic Absorbance in Otosclerosis: Does Stapedotomy Restore Normal Tympanic Cavity Function?*

open access: yesInternational Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2022
Introduction Otosclerosis is characterized by the fixation of the stapes to the oval window, thereby impairing acoustic signal absorbance. A commonly used surgical technique for improving hearing in cases of otosclerosis is stapedotomy.

Middle ear resonance in infants: Age effects

open access: yesInternational Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2012
Summary Introduction: The resonant frequency is the probe frequency in which susceptance is 0 due to the neutralization of the forces of mass and stiffness components that control the middle ear.

Acoustic Experimental Technology for Aircraft Nacelle Liner

open access: yesAerospace, 2023
An aircraft nacelle acoustic liner is a key mean of aircraft noise reduction. The success of its design depends strongly on the development of experimental technology, which is generally divided into two stages: impedance eduction and the modal ...

Eustachian Tube Opening Measurement by Sonotubometry Using Perfect Sequences for Healthy Adults [PDF]

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology, 2016
Objectives The aim of this study was to establish the rate variation of sonotubometric measurements using a specific broadband class of signals, the so-called perfect sequences (PSEQ) among healthy adults and to identify an optimal and technically simple

Effect of Different Positions of the Head on Tympanometry Results: An Exploratory Study

open access: yesBengal Journal of Otolaryngology and Head Neck Surgery, 2017
Introduction Tympanometry is an objective measure of middle ear function that has been an integral part of the audiological evaluation test battery, for nearly three decades.

Explainable machine learning determines effects on the sound absorption coefficient measured in the impedance tube.

open access: yesJournal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2021
Measurements of acoustic properties of sound absorbing materials in impedance tubes show poor reproducibility, which was demonstrated in round robin tests.

Multifrequency tympanometry in infants

open access: yesInternational Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2012
Introduction: The use of conventional tympanometry is not sufficiently sensitive to detect all cases of middle ear changes, and this hinders accurate diagnosis.

Tympanometry and CT Measurement of Middle Ear Volumes in Patients with Unilateral Chronic Otitis Media [PDF]

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology, 2008
ObjectivesThe goals of the study were to compare the middle ear (ME) volumes from both normal and lesioned ears, and these ME volumes were measured by a digital image processing computed tomography (CT) program in patients with unilateral chronic otitis ...

Reaction assessment of cultured breast cancer cells exposed to anticancer agents using microscale acoustic impedance profile

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2018
The mechanical properties of living cells are known to be associated with disease states and cell function. In this study, acoustic impedance microscopy using a sapphire lens transducer with a center frequency of 320 MHz was employed to characterize the ...
