Spin Start Line Effects on the J2X Gas Generator Chamber Acoustics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The J2X Gas Generator engine design has a spin start line connected near to the turbine inlet vanes. This line provides helium during engine startup to begin turbomachinery operation.

Acoustic Impedance Calculation via Numerical Solution of the Inverse Helmholtz Problem [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Assigning homogeneous boundary conditions, such as acoustic impedance, to the thermoviscous wave equations (TWE) derived by transforming the linearized Navier-Stokes equations (LNSE) to the frequency domain yields a so-called Helmholtz solver, whose output is a discrete set of complex eigenfunction and eigenvalue pairs.

Discovery of an Intrinsic Antiferromagnetic Semiconductor EuSc2Te4 With Magnetism‐Driven Nonlinear Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
EuSc₂Te₄, an antiferromagnetic semiconductor, exhibits a nonlinear Hall effect (NLHE) characterized by quadratic current–voltage behavior. Combined experimental and theoretical studies reveal that this NLHE is linked to its antiferromagnetism and involves contributions from the quantum metric.

A Nitsche-type Method for Helmholtz Equation with an Embedded Acoustically Permeable Interface [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We propose a new finite element method for Helmholtz equation in the situation where an acoustically permeable interface is embedded in the computational domain. A variant of Nitsche's method, different from the standard one, weakly enforces the impedance conditions for transmission through the interface.

Ray-tracing semiclassical low frequency acoustic modeling with local and extended reaction boundaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The recently introduced acoustic ray-tracing semiclassical (RTS) method is validated for a set of practically relevant boundary conditions. RTS is a frequency domain geometrical method which directly reproduces the acoustic Green's function. As previously demonstrated for a rectangular room and weakly absorbing boundaries with a real and frequency ...

Sono‐Piezo‐Photosynthesis of Ethylene and Acetylene from Bioethanol under Ambient Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel sono‐piezo‐photocatalytic strategy enables the conversion of bioethanol to ethylene (C2H4) and acetylene (C2H2) under ambient conditions, addressing the limitations of conventional methods that are high‐temperature and energy‐intensive. By using an advanced graphene oxide/sodium bismuth titanate heterostructure catalyst, this work achieved ...

Damage location method for thin composites structures - application to an aircraft door [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Piezoelectric sensors are widely used for Structure Health Monitoring (SHM) technique due to their high-frequency capability. In particular, electromechanical impedance (EMI) techniques give simple and low cost solutions for detecting damage in composite

Impulse Generation by an Open Shock Tube [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We perform experimental and numerical studies of a shock tube with an open end. The purpose is to investigate the impulse due to the exhaust of gases through the open end of the tube as a model for a partially filled detonation tube as used in pulse ...

On impedance conditions for circular multiperforated acoustic liners [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Background: The acoustic damping in gas turbines and aero-engines relies to a great extent on acoustic liners that consists of a cavity and a perforated face sheet. The prediction of the impedance of the liners by direct numerical simulations is nowadays not feasible due to the hundreds to thousands repetitions of tiny holes.

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...
