Multipole acoustic logging‐while‐drilling

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2002, 2002
The problem of multipole acoustic Logging-WhileDrilling (LWD) is analyzed. By formulating a multipole acoustic ring source at the rim of the drill collar, we model the characteristics of monopole, dipole, and quadrupole waves in the LWD environment.

Acoustic Logging-While-Drilling

2020
Acoustic logging-while-drilling (ALWD) is an advanced technology developed to determine the formation properties in real-time while drilling. Its advantages include obtaining formation properties while conserving drill-rig time, true formation information without invasion, acquisition of information for drilling safety such as over-pressured formations,

Optimization of the Monopole Acoustic Transducer for Logging-while-Drilling

Chinese Physics Letters, 2014
A new design idea for a monopole acoustic transducer which increases the frequency band and improves electromechanical performance is proposed with a focus on the lowest order of the radial and flexural modes. Numerical modeling of the resonance frequencies and electrical conductance are conducted with respect to the dimensions and material parameters ...

Generalized collar waves in acoustic logging while drilling

Chinese Physics B, 2016
Tool waves, also named collar waves, propagating along the drill collars in acoustic logging while drilling (ALWD), strongly interfere with the needed P- and S-waves of a penetrated formation, which is a key issue in picking up formation P- and S-wave velocities.

Robust Detection and Estimation for Logging While Drilling Monopole Acoustic Data

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2015
In this paper, we present methods and strategies for robust detection and slowness estimation of weak compressional (P) and shear (S) waves in borehole sonic logging in noisy environments such as while logging while drilling, by proposing methods for enhancing the semblance used in the slowness time coherence method used in the logging.

A multi-modes coupling receiver for acoustic logging while drilling

Proceedings of the 2014 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications, 2014
Acoustic logging while drilling (LWD) technology plays a more and more important role in highly deviated angle and horizontal well logging due to the advantages such as high efficiency, low cost and etc. However, there still exist bottleneck problems because of the acoustic LWD environment in the borehole including noise of mud and drilling bit and ...

Initial Results from an Acoustic Logging-While-Drilling Tool

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1996
Abstract This paper presents the initial results from field tests of an acoustic logging-while-drilling tool. Over 60,000 ft of well have been logged with 6.75-in.- and 8-in.-diameter versions of the tool. Various types of formations were encountered with compressional slowness values ranging from 55 µsec/ft to 170 µsec/ft.
