An Overview on Acoustic Metamaterials
2021Acoustic metamaterials are artificially engineered composites composed of mesoscopic subwavelength units, which have recently become an active field with an enormous range of potential applications. These media, which derive their properties from their structure rather than from the chemical properties of their constitutive materials, can be tailored ...

MRS Bulletin, 2008
AbstractThe field of engineered materials with designed properties is expected to continue to grow in the future, and metamaterials are instrumental in allowing this freedom of design. Metamaterials, particularly acoustic, are still in the stage of infancy.

Metamaterials acoustic barrier
Applied Acoustics, 2021Abstract Metamaterials represent a new technology in noise control fields. The first studies about metamaterials date back to the 1900s. The ability to deflect acoustic waves is due to the geometric of the structures that generate resonance effects, and to the periodic arrangement within the material.

New acoustics, based on metamaterial
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012With the capability to fabricate acoustical metamaterial:phononic crystals, double negative material and materials with material parameters based on the predetermined direction of sound propagation, one can control and manipulate sound propagation in solids and fluids.

A multilayered acoustic hyperlens with acoustic metamaterials
Applied Physics A, 2011The acoustic hyperlens can be realized by an alternating layered structure of water and fluid with negative mass density. Based on this alternating layered principle, we propose that an acoustic metamaterial consisting of three layers in water background can be designed to replace the fluid with negative mass density.

Effective Parameters of Acoustic Metamaterials
Russian Physics Journal, 2018Analytical expressions are presented for the wave number, the characteristic wave impedance, and the refractive index of homogeneous longitudinal plane waves propagating in an acoustic metamaterial with dissipative losses. The metamaterial is characterized by the effective scalar material parameters: the complex density and the compressibility.

The 2024 acoustic metamaterials roadmap
Journal of Physics D: Applied PhysicsAbstract Today, acoustic metamaterials (AMMs) form a core area of metamaterial research. They offer bespoke wave control, achievable through their rationally designed structure and are at the forefront of metamaterial applications and commercialisation.

Acoustic conjugate metamaterials
Physical Review B, 2019Compared to metamaterials based on regulation of real material parameters, artificial materials designed by controlling complex parameters exhibit richer physics and different functions. In this work, we present acoustic conjugate metamaterials, which possess complex mass densities and bulk compressibilities with opposite phases, to manipulate acoustic
