First record of humpback whale songs in Southern Chile: Analysis of seasonal and diel variation [PDF]
Male humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) produce complex, patterned songs that are traditionally recorded on their breeding grounds. In this work, we report results from the first continuous acoustic monitoring of a humpback whale feeding ground off

Acoustic Monitoring of Intraoperative Neuromuscular Block
Standard methods for accurate intraoperative measurement of neuromuscular block are either expensive or inconvenient and are not used widely. We have evaluated a new method of monitoring neuromuscular block using a low-frequency microphone. The method is based on the phenomenon of low-frequency sound emission by contracting skeletal muscle.

A new method employing species‐specific thresholding identifies acoustically overlapping bats
Passive acoustic detectors are increasingly used for monitoring biodiversity, particularly for echolocating bat species (Microchiroptera). However, identification of calls collected at large scales is hindered by substantial variation within and between ...

Automatic acoustic detection of birds through deep learning : the first bird audio detection challenge [PDF]
Assessing the presence and abundance of birds is important for monitoring specific species as well as overall ecosystem health. Many birds are most readily detected by their sounds, and thus passive acoustic monitoring is highly appropriate. Yet acoustic

Shifts in acoustic signature of Southern Hemisphere fin whales: Declining peak frequency of high-frequency components [PDF]
Population-specific acoustic features are vital for using passive acoustic monitoring to study marine mammal populations in remote regions. Southern Hemisphere fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus) songs include region-specific high-frequency components ...

Gear wear process monitoring using acoustic signals [PDF]
Airborne acoustic signals contain valuable information from machines and can be detected remotely for condition monitoring. However, the signal is often seriously contaminated by various noises from the environment as well as nearby machines.
