Partial Discharge Detection and Localization in Power Transformers based on Acoustic Emission: Theory, Methods, and Recent Trends

IETE Technical Review, 2021
This paper provides a comprehensive review of the acoustic method used for partial discharge (PD) localization in power transformer. The paper outlines the partial discharge mechanism, basic principle and properties of the acoustic emission (AE ...

Interlaboratory Acoustic Power Measurement

Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, 2003
This article describes an American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine-sponsored intercomparison of the results of acoustic power measurements performed by several laboratories. Two primary calibration techniques, namely, planar scanning and radiation force balance, were used in the frequency range typical of that in which sonographic imaging devices ...

Acoustic power dependences of sonoluminescence and bubble dynamics.

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry, 2014
The decreasing effect of sonoluminescence (SL) in water at high acoustic powers was investigated in relation to bubble dynamics and acoustic emission spectra. The intensity of SL was measured in the power range of 1-18W at 83.8kHz for open-end (free liquid surface and film-covered surface) and fixed-end boundaries of sound fields.

Acoustic power transfer for biomedical implants using piezoelectric receivers: effects of misalignment and misorientation

Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, 2019
Implantable medical devices (IMDs) can be powered wirelessly using acoustics with no need for a battery. In an acoustic power transfer system, which consists of a transmitter, medium, and a receiver, the power that the receiver generates is a function of

A Versatile Through-Metal-Wall Acoustic Power and Data Transfer Solution

2019 19th International Conference on Micro and Nanotechnology for Power Generation and Energy Conversion Applications (PowerMEMS), 2019
This paper reports techniques to transfer power and data through metal walls by exploiting acoustic waves using innovative piezoelectric transducer mountings. Instead of permanently gluing piezoelectric elements on both sides of the metal wall as usually

The high-power acoustical warning systems

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1999
The high-power acoustical warning and informing systems are necessary for various aims. Mostly these systems work in open space, particularly in urban areas (towns, villages, river valleys). The useful coverage depends upon used transducers-emitters and installed electrical power.

Optimizing piezoelectric receivers for acoustic power transfer applications

Smart materials and structures (Print), 2018
In this paper, we aim to optimize piezoelectric plate receivers for acoustic power transfer applications by analyzing the influence of the losses and of the acoustic boundary conditions.

On the physical meaning of the power factor in acoustics

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012
Following recent advancements in the study of time-averaged properties of energy propagation in linear acoustic fields, the well established concept of power factor known from the electric AC circuits analysis, is here extended to acoustics. This allows our outline of a complete acousto-electro-mechanic analogy, where the fundamental physical concept ...

Conservation of power of the supersonic acoustic intensity

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2014
The supersonic intensity is a quantity that represents the net acoustic output that a source couples into the medium; it can be regarded as a spatially low-pass filtered version of the active intensity. This spatial filtering can lead to significant error due to spatial truncation.

ON CALCULATION OF ACOUSTIC POWER

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2000
The previous work on sound power calculation in the presence of a mean flow has been focused on the casting of the basic acoustic equations in the form of an acoustic energy conservation law from which a definition of the acoustic intensity is extracted.
