Reconstruction of acoustic scenes in biosonar

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2018
Biosonar mechanisms are highlighted by comparing acoustically reconstructed scenes derived from generalized methods with the performance of echolocating animals. Bioinspired computations replacing standard methods then offer a path towards understanding the animal’s solutions. Seemingly simple outdoor spaces present flying bats with complex scenes when

Electronic reconstruction of acoustic holograms

IEEE Transactions on Audio and Electroacoustics, 1970
A method is described for reconstructing acoustic hologram images using an electronic means which avoids multiple image formation. When the dimensions of the hologram are small compared to the dimensions of the viewing area, the incident waves are approximately plane rather than spherical.

Reconstruction of transient acoustic radiation from a sphere

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2005
Transient near-field acoustical holography (NAH) formulation is derived from the Helmholtz equation least squares (HELS) method to reconstruct acoustic radiation from a spherical surface subject to transient excitations in a free field. To facilitate derivations of temporal solutions, we make use of the Laplace transform and expansion in terms of the ...

Acoustical image reconstruction devices

1977
An improved use of ultrasound in the medical and non destructive testing areas is made nowadays. The very first ultrasonic apparatuses were performing in the A-scan mode, that is to say that a pulsed ultrasonic wavetrain was launched and the position in time of the echoes, which were reflected by the obstacles, were observed.

Methods for reconstructing acoustic quantities based on acoustic pressure measurements

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008
This paper presents an overview of the acoustic imaging methods developed over the past three decades that enable one to reconstruct all acoustic quantities based on the acoustic pressure measurements taken around a target source at close distances. One such method that has received the most attention is known as near-field acoustical holography (NAH).

Reconstruction of the Acoustical Impedance Profile of a Multilayer Medium

Ultrasonic Imaging, 1992
The recovery of the acoustical reflectivity function and impedance profile of a layered medium from bandlimited and noisy pulse-echo ultrasonic data is considered. The effects of the transducer and the noise are reduced using Wiener filtering. With further signal processing and a priori knowledge of the attenuation and the velocity profiles, the ...

Reconstruction of temperature distributions in a passive acoustic thermotomography

Proceedings IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging, 2003
Passive acoustic thermotomography is a method for measuring 2-D and 3-D temperature distributions deep inside biological objects using measurements of the objects own thermal acoustic radiation. Acoustic radiation, coming from deep within a body, is measured at 20 points on the surface and for every point the acoustic radiation is measured at a ...
