Automatic detection of acoustic signals off Svalbard using distributed acoustic sensing

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) is transforming acoustic monitoring, using existing fiber optic infrastructure to create vast listening arrays. DAS provides uniformly spaced virtual channels at intervals of a few meters over hundreds of km, with applications from geophysics and weather to vessel and marine mammal monitoring. A problem arises in that

A sequential processor for detecting Gaussian acoustic signals

IEEE Transactions on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 1983
A sequential approach to detecting Gaussian acoustic signals is discussed. The optimum sequential processor is synthesized and its performance is evaluated. The performance obtained is compared with the performance of the optimum unsequential processor. It is shown that the sequential approach may considerably reduce the required time-bandwidth product

Spectrum analysis of acoustic signals for cavitation detection

2012 IEEE Symposium on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2012
This paper reviews the sources of acoustics in a centrifugal pump during normal operation and explains how these sources are affected by other factors, particularly the onset of cavitation. It analyses the efficacy of the acoustics method for detecting cavitation in centrifugal pumps, using spectrum analysis of acoustic signals.

Detection of Welding Process Instabilities Using Acoustic Signals

2017
This work deals with problems related to the monitoring of welding process. This is an important issue, especially from the point of view of operation of automated welding systems. One of the sources of diagnostic information about welding process is sound. The sound generated during the welding process includes acoustic audible and inaudible parts. In

Likelihood Ratio Methods for Underwater Acoustics Signal Detection

2002
Abstract Underwater acoustics is about sonars, that is, techniques that use waves of mechanical vibration to transmit and receive information, under water, for such waves are the ones that propagate most easily in that environment. A second approach that has been attempted could be defined as phenomenological in that an acoustic field is
