Balanced Noise-Evoked Excitation and Inhibition in Awake Mice CA3

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2017
The hippocampus is known as a neuronal structure involved in learning, memory and spatial navigation using multi-sensory cues. However, the basic features of its response to acoustic stimuli without any behavioral tasks (conditioning) remains poorly ...

Developmental sensory experience balances cortical excitation and inhibition. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Early in life, neural circuits are highly susceptible to outside influences. The organization of the primary auditory cortex (A1) in particular is governed by acoustic experience during the critical period, an epoch near the beginning of postnatal ...

s‐Orbital Mediated Metavalent Bonding Enables State‐Of‐The‐Art n‐Type AgBiSe2 Thermoelectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metavalent bonding (MVB) underpins the exceptional property portfolio of chalcogenides. Typical MVB solids are mainly found in p‐bonded systems. This work reveals that MVB can also be formed with s‐p orbital interactions upon forming a single‐electron σ‐bond, as exemplified in AgBiSe2.

Effects of ultrasound on the growth and function of bone and periodontal ligament cells in vitro [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The effects of therapeutic ultrasound (US) on tissue healing processes in vivo are likely to involve US-induced changes in key cellular functions. However, these have not yet been clearly delineated and the present study has, therefore, examined the ...

Electric and Acoustic Stimulation in Cochlear Implant Recipients with Hearing Preservation

open access: yesSeminars in Hearing, 2018
Hearing loss affects 30 million people in the United States, and a subset of these patients have normal low-frequency hearing and ski-sloped high-frequency hearing loss. For these patients, hearing aids alone may not provide adequate benefit.

Nanomaterial-Assisted Acoustic Neural Stimulation

open access: yes, 2020
Wireless and non-invasive stimulation of neural system, especially at the central level, is considered a critical issue not only for the treatment of a variety of pathological conditions, such as epilepsy, chronic pain, and obsessive-compulsive disorders, but also for reducing the debilitating motor symptoms of movement disorders such as Parkinson’s ...
