High speed digital acoustic telemetry system

Proceedings of the 1987 5th International Symposium on Unmanned Untethered Submersible Technology, 2005
The increasing use of untethered underwater working platforms requires the ability to provide command, control, and data communication between the underwater platform and an operator control station for these systems to be effective. Remote under ice surveillance, military mine detection and classification, and diver communications are examples of work

Telemetry receiver and acoustic command system

Ocean '74 - IEEE International Conference on Engineering in the Ocean Environment, 1974
A shipboard Telemetry Receiver Acoustic Command System (TRACS) was designed to be used for twoway acoustic communication with and relocation of underwater instruments. The design objectives were compact size, low cost, multi-purpose capabilities, and ease of operation and maintenance of the system.

Underwater acoustic telemetry for AUVs

IEE Colloquium on Autonomous Underwater Vehicles and their Systems - Recent Developments and Future Prospects, 1996
The paper deals with the development of acoustic telemetry links for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) for which there are two principle communication requirements: a high data rate "up-link" from the AUV to the surface for retrieving sensor data such as video and sonar images; and a substantially lower data rate, but very reliable, bi-directional ...

A New Approach To Drill-String Acoustic Telemetry

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1979
Abstract A new approach to acoustic communication along the drill string employing zero-order torsional acoustic waves is presented. This new approach is introduced because the presented. This new approach is introduced because the extensional acoustic waves presently used by the petroleum industry in drill string ...

Electromechanical transducer for acoustic telemetry system

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1994
An improved electromechanical transducer is provided for use in an acoustic telemetry system. The transducer of this invention comprises a stack of ferroelectric ceramic disks interleaved with a plurality of spaced electrodes which are used to electrically pole the ceramic disks. The ceramic stack is housed in a metal tubular drill collar segment.

Digital waveform codings for ocean acoustic telemetry

IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 1991
M-sequence waveform coding with a single long codeword has been considered as the basis for long-range underwater acoustic telemetry for one user. (An m-sequence is a periodic, binary, linear-law maximal-length sequence. If the span of the law is n, the maximal length L-2/sup n/=1). For a given law, a single m-sequence transmits a maximum of log/sub 2/

Performance limitations in underwater acoustic telemetry

IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 1990
Performance limitations in digital acoustic telemetry are addressed. Increases in computational capabilities have led to a number of complex but practical solutions aimed at increasing the reliability of acoustic data links. These solutions range from ocean-basin scale data telemetry to video-image transmission at a few hundred yards' distance.

Telemetry system and method for acoustic arrays

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2007
A telemetry system includes a plurality of acoustic sensors for receiving acoustic information and generating analog signals based on the received acoustic information. A first plurality of subsystems is coupled to at least a subset of the plurality of acoustic sensors.

Directional acoustic telemetry receiver

Acoustic telemetry devices and methods that provide directional detection. In one embodiment, a disclosed acoustic telemetry device comprises at least two acoustic sensors and an electronics module. A first of the acoustic sensors detects a communication signal that propagates along a tubing string in a first direction. A second of the acoustic sensors
