Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

Mechanism and treatment of diarrhea associated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors

open access: yesHeliyon
Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have become first-line drugs for cancer treatment. However, their clinical use is seriously hindered since many patients experience diarrhea after receiving TKIs. The mechanisms of TKI-associated diarrhea remain unclear.

Influence of ultrasonic treatment on the structure of high-carbon steel [PDF]

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2011
Discussion on the results of industrial tests of sound amplification of high-carbon steel in a 130 kg ingot mould. The sound amplification was conducted using a waveguide immersed in liquid steel and connected with a piezoelectric head excited ...

Akustične lastnosti bukovine po hidrotermični obdelavi

open access: yesLes, 2017
We investigated the acoustic properties of beech wood (Fagus sylvatica L.) after hydrothermal treatment. Two beech logs were cut into 10 pairs of radially oriented specimens with the dimensions 500 mm × 160 mm × 12 mm and air dried.

Design and performance of duct acoustic treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The procedure for designing acoustic treatment panels used to line the walls of aircraft engine ducts and for estimating the resulting suppression of turbofan engine duct noise is discussed.

Comment on "Head-on collision of electron acoustic solitary waves in a plasma with nonextensive hot electrons" [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In a recent paper "Head-on collision of electron acoustic solitary waves in a plasma with nonextensive hot electrons" [Astrophys. Space Sci. 338, 271-278 (2012)] Eslami, Mottaghizadeh and Pakzad deal with the problem of the head-on collisions between two

On the Influence of Antioxidants and Recycled MgO–C Source Material on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon‐Bonded Magnesia Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The presented study focuses on the fracture behaviour of carbon‐bonded magnesia MgO–C refractories, where environmentally friendly fructose, collagen and lignin serve as temporary binding agents. The partial substitution of the source material with recycled MgO–C reduces the fracture resistance, which can be counteracted by the additional introduction ...

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Low temperature-semiconductor band gap thermal shifts: T^4 shifts from ordinary acoustic and T^2 from piezoacoustic coupling

open access: yes, 2017
At low temperature T, the experimental gap of silicon decreases as E_g(T)=E_g(0)-AT^4. The main reason is electron-phonon renormalization. The physics behind the T^4-power law is more complex than has been realized.
