Dust acoustic shock waves

Physical Review E, 2004
It is shown that nonlinear equations governing the dynamics of large amplitude nondispersive dust acoustic waves admit nonstationary dust acoustic shock waves. Analytical and numerical results for the latter are presented, and the relevance of our investigation to laboratory experiments is discussed.

Acoustic waves in a perforated cylinder

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
A lumped parameter approach to the problem of acoustic wave scattering by a perforated cylinder has been presented. The proposed framework enables analytical evaluation of the scattering amplitudes of all harmonics and derivation of the dispersion relations for the guided wave propagating inside the cylinder.

Stagnant Nonuniform Acoustic Wave

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Studied theoretically and experimentally antisymmetric stagnant waves in an elastic wedge-shaped plate. The solution of the nonuniform problem is obtained with the approxima¬tion that the field nonuniformity is not only small but is slowly changing. For a small angle of the wedge are calculated and measured amplitude in a standing wave.

Diffusing acoustic wave spectroscopy

Physical Review E, 2002
We have developed a technique in ultrasonic correlation spectroscopy called diffusing acoustic wave spectroscopy (DAWS). In this technique, the motion of the scatterers (e.g., particles or inclusions) is determined from the temporal fluctuations of multiply scattered sound.

Acoustic waves

Abstract In Chapter 14, we turn to acoustic waves. We start by deriving the governing equation for small-amplitude acoustic waves in a gas. Next, we consider simple examples of a one-dimensional acoustic waves, such as waves in an organ pipe.

Acoustic Plasma Waves in Semimetals

IBM Journal of Research and Development, 1964
The acoustic plasma wave suffers severe landau damping for equal-temperature carriers obeying Boltzmann statistics, but can be relatively weakly landau damped in semimetals if in the propagation direction the Fermi velocities and masses of the two carriers are very unequal.

Cloaking of the momentum in acoustic waves

Physical Review E, 2010
Through an appropriate change in variables, we find that the three-dimensional acoustic wave equation is subject to the transformation media interpretation. In particular, we determine that this interpretation can be extended beyond the pressure difference to also account for the momentum transported by the wave.

Magneto-Acoustic Waves in a Plasma

The Physics of Fluids, 1963
The propagation of plane magneto-acoustic waves in a highly conducting plasma is examined, and the results are applied to magneto-acoustic pulsations of a cylindrical configuration. (C.E.S.)
