Comparisons between computer simulations of room acoustical parameters and those measured in concert halls [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
A number of European concert halls were surveyed in 1989. In this paper comparisons are made between measured room acoustical parameters and those obtained from computer simulations on concert halls using the odeon program version 3.1.

The sound of trustworthiness: Acoustic-based modulation of perceived voice personality. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
When we hear a new voice we automatically form a "first impression" of the voice owner's personality; a single word is sufficient to yield ratings highly consistent across listeners.

Acoustically quality evaluation of date palm samples from the pith to the bark [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Wood and Paper Industries, 2018
This paper investigated the radial variations of acoustical and mechanical properties of date palm from the pith to the bark. Cubic samples with dimensions of 2×2×35 cm3 (Radial× tangential ×longitudinal)) were taken in distance of 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 cm ...

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Acoustical Parameters of Polyvinyl Alcohol

open access: yesJournal of Mountain Research, 2021
Ultrasonic investigation provides a wealth of information in understanding the intermolecular interaction of solute and solvent. An attempt has been made to measure density, viscosity and ultrasonic velocity of aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol of molecular weight approximately 140,000 at different temperatures 35οC, 40oC, 45οC, 50oC, 55οC, 60oC ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Optimization of four-Chamber and eccentric ellipse mufflers hybridized with multi-Segment perforated/non-perforated tubes

open access: yesJournal of Low Frequency Noise, Vibration and Active Control, 2023
Muffler with circular section and inner symmetric acoustical elements has been habitually used in industry. In order to improve the acoustical performance, an advanced eccentric muffler having ellipse cross-section, multiple chambers, and multi-segment ...

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Ultrasonic Study of Molecular Interactions in Binary Mixtures at 303 K

open access: yesE-Journal of Chemistry, 2010
The ultrasonic velocity, density and viscosity at 303 K have been measured in the binary systems of 1,4-dioxane and acetone with water. From the experimental data, various acoustical parameters such as adiabatic compressibility (β), intermolecular free ...
