Computer Modeling of Barrel-Vaulted Sanctuary Exhibiting Flutter Echo with Comparison to Measurements

open access: yesAcoustics, 2020
Computer modeling in acoustics allows for the prediction of acoustical defects and the evaluation of potential remediations. In this article, computer modeling is applied to the case of a barrel-vaulted sanctuary whose architectural design and ...

Analysis and Identification of Nonlinear Acoustic Damping in Miniature Loudspeakers

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Nonlinear acoustic damping is a key nonlinearity in miniature loudspeakers when the air velocity is at a high amplitude. Measurement of nonlinear acoustic damping is beneficial for predicting and analyzing the performance of miniature loudspeakers ...

Quantum Acoustics with Surface Acoustic Waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
It has recently been demonstrated that surface acoustic waves (SAWs) can interact with superconducting qubits at the quantum level. SAW resonators in the GHz frequency range have also been found to have low loss at temperatures compatible with superconducting quantum circuits. These advances open up new possibilities to use the phonon degree of freedom

Acoustic Metamaterial Beam Splitter [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This paper proposes an acoustic beam splitter based on acoustic Luneburg lens. A two-dimensional acoustic Luneburg lens with gradient refractive index is achieved to provide a practical realization for the acoustic beam splitter. The acoustic wave propagation through the beam splitter was explored theoretically, numerically and experimentally.

The Acoustics of the Catacombs [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Acoustics, 2015
Abstract The catacombs are underground places. This paper reports the results of acoustic measurements carried out inside the catacombs of “San Gennaro” (Naples) and in those one of “San Callisto” (Rome). Originally the catacombs were also used to perform sacred functions, although we don't know the type of these functions i.e.

An acoustic metamaterial lens for acoustic point-to-point communication in air [PDF]

open access: yesAcoustical Physics 65 (2019): 1-6, 2017
Acoustic metamaterials have become a novel and effective way to control sound waves and design acoustic devices. In this study, we design a 3D acoustic metamaterial lens (AML) to achieve point-to-point acoustic communication in air: any acoustic source (i.e. a speaker) in air enclosed by such an AML can produce an acoustic image where the acoustic wave

Space-time adaptive detection for bistatic MIMO system under covariance matrix persymmetry and symmetric spectrum

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Space-time adaptive detection (STAD) is an important research aspect of the bistatic multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar system. The signal and clutter space-time models of the bistatic MIMO radar are described in this study. The knowledge-aided (
