Density modulation of a solid-state plasma using acoustic pressure
2013 19th IEEE Pulsed Power Conference (PPC), 2013We are studying the plasma density response with pressure in indium antimonide (InSb), with the goal of developing a solid-state pressure gradient transducer [1]. We use intrinsic InSb, where the free carrier concentration depends only on the energy band gap and temperature.

Scanning acoustic microprobe analysis for testing solid state materials
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1989Abstract A survey of analytic techniques for subsurface inspection by means of acoustic reflective microscopy is presented. The measurement of the acoustic material signature is carried out using a computer-assisted scanning acoustic microscope operating at frequencies between 100 and 400 MHz.

Simple homodyne ultrasound interferometer for solid state physical acoustics
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2015Ultrasonic pulse-echo technique is a valuable and non-destructive tool to explore elastic properties of materials. We propose a new instrument based on mass-produced microchips. In our design, the signal is processed by an AD8302 RF gain and phase detector (www.analog.com).

Steady-state acoustic reflectometry for the reconstruction of solid cylindrical cavities
Proceedings of the Second Joint 24th Annual Conference and the Annual Fall Meeting of the Biomedical Engineering Society] [Engineering in Medicine and Biology, 2002Acoustic pulse reflectometry has been used in the past for the indirect determination of the cross-section area vs. distance function describing the geometry of solid cylindrical cavities such as the upper airway tract. Excitation pulse bandwidth, noise and system losses are usually the main experimental issues and sources of reconstruction error in ...

A solid-state modulator for environmental applications of pulsed acoustics
Digest of Technical Papers. 12th IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference. (Cat. No.99CH36358), 2003Environmentally friendly control of organic and inorganic fouling of machinery and piping systems is a pressing challenge for both military and civilian institutions, such as the US Navy and the electric power industry. In proof-of-principal testing, pulsed acoustics based on pulsed power modulators has proven effective for both cleaning and prevention

Two-Axis Solid-State Microgyroscope on Surface Acoustic Waves
Mekhatronika, Avtomatizatsiya, Upravlenie, 2019This article focuses on the development of a two-axis solid state micro gyroscope (SMG) on surface acoustic waves (SAW). The described gyroscope belongs to the category of inexpensive sensing elements featuring a high degree of longtime overload stability.

Acoustic intensity modulation of solid-state lasers by means of a rocking mirror
Soviet Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1984Intensity modulation was produced in ruby and YAG:Nd3+ lasers by varying the angle of inclination of one of the resonator mirrors (rocking the mirror) at an ultrasonic frequency. Modulation occurred at twice the frequency of the excited mirror vibrations, the average intensity of the emission spikes simultaneously increased by a factor of more than 10,

Q-factor of acoustic modes of a solid-state resonator at low temperatures
Measurement Techniques, 2011The acoustic characteristics of a cylindrical sample made of an aluminum alloy (model of gravity detector) in the course of cooling to temperatures on the order of the boiling point of liquid helium are studied. A specialized cryostat with working chamber having a large volume is presented.

Acoustical measurement of solid state non-linearity: Application to CsCdF3 and KZnF3
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1983Abstract Combination of the results of two sets of measurements on the same crystalline samples of CsCdF3 and KZnF3 has made possible the evaluation of the third-order elastic (TOE) constants of these two fluoroperovskites. In the first technique the hydrostatic pressure dependence of the velocity of ultrasonic waves of different propagation and ...
