Miniature photonic-crystal hydrophone optimized for ocean acoustics
This work reports on an optical hydrophone that is insensitive to hydrostatic pressure, yet capable of measuring acoustic pressures as low as the background noise in the ocean in a frequency range of 1 Hz to 100 kHz.

The structure of the sunflower head can be used to realize broadband applications in optics. However, this 2D structure, with a ring-shaped reciprocal space, only has a normalized Fourier coefficient peak around 0.033, which leads to a relatively low ...

Acoustic Tamm states of three-dimensional solid-fluid phononic crystals
In this work, the existence and propagation of acoustic Tamm states at the interface of air and a face-centered cubic solid-fluid phononic crystal composed of spherical air voids interconnected by cylindrical air channels are demonstrated. Supercell band structure computations via the finite element method reveal surface bands for Tamm states on (100),

Numerical investigation of the effect of crosswind on sound propagation outdoors [PDF]
The effect of wind on sound propagation in the atmosphere has been studied extensively before with an emphasize on downwind sound propagation, typically representing worst-case scenarios.

Shannon Entropy as Characterization Tool in Acoustics
We introduce Shannon's information entropy to characterize the avoided crossing appearing in the resonant Zener-like phenomenon in ultrasonic superlattices made of two different fluidlike meta- materials.

A review of the state of art in applying Biot theory to acoustic propagation through the bone [PDF]
Understanding the propagation of acoustic waves through a liquid-perfused porous solid framework such as cancellous bone is an important pre-requisite to improve the diagnosis of osteoporosis by ultrasound.

Equivalent circuit models of two-layer flexure beams with excitation by temperature, humidity, pressure, piezoelectric or piezomagnetic interactions [PDF]
Two-layer flexure beams often serve as basic transducers in actuators and sensors. In this paper a generalized description of their stimuli-influenced mechanical behavior is derived.

Solid‐State Photochemistry in Resonant Acoustic Mixers
AbstractHerein, we developed the first photochemical reaction set‐up under solid‐state conditions using a resonant acoustic mixer (RAM), a novel mechanochemical methodology that eliminates the need for milling media. This innovation outscores previous approaches in the ball mill under avoidance of milling balls and their related disadvantages. Further,
