Initiation of ventricular arrhythmia in the acquired long QT syndrome. [PDF]

open access: yesCardiovasc Res, 2023
AbstractAimsLong QT syndrome (LQTS) carries a risk of life-threatening polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (Torsades de Pointes, TdP) and is a major cause of premature sudden cardiac death. TdP is induced by R-on-T premature ventricular complexes (PVCs), thought to be generated by cellular early-afterdepolarisations (EADs).

Acquired Long QT Syndrome: A Review of the Literature [PDF]

open access: diamondAsploro Journal of Biomedical and Clinical Case Reports, 2020
The QT interval represents the duration of ventricular depolarization and repolarization. It is measured from the beginning of the QRS complex to the end of the T wave. Prolongation of the QT interval may be congenital or acquired. This increases the risk of polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (i.e torsades de pointes) and cardiac arrest.

Genetics of acquired long QT syndrome [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Clinical Investigation, 2005
The QT interval is the electrocardiographic manifestation of ventricular repolarization, is variable under physiologic conditions, and is measurably prolonged by many drugs. Rarely, however, individuals with normal base-line intervals may display exaggerated QT interval prolongation, and the potentially fatal polymorphic ventricular tachycardia torsade

Acquired long QT syndrome: as risky as congenital long QT syndrome? [PDF]

open access: bronzeEuropace, 2011
This editorial refers to ‘Role of implantable cardioverter defibrillator therapy in patients with acquired long QT syndrome: A long-term follow-up’ by G. Monnig et al ., on page 396 Long QT syndrome (LQTS) describes a group of disorders characterized by QT interval prolongation secondary to delayed cardiac repolarization that may either be genetic ...
