Crepitation in Schistocerca americana (Orthoptera: Acrididae)
Schistocerca americana males were found to crepitate during interactions with other males in the field. More research will need to be Otte (1970) compiled observations on the mating behavior of approximately 100 species of grasshoppers. The mating behavior of Schistocerca lineata (Scudder) is the only member of its genus treated.

A new species of the genus Gomphomastax Brunner von Wattenwyl (Orthoptera: Eumastacidae: Gomphomastacinae) from Indian Kashmir [PDF]
A new species, Gomphomastax nigrovittata Usmani, from Kashmir is described and illustrated. In addition to conventional morphological characters, genitalic structures are also studied.

ABSTRACT The latitudinal diversity gradient (LDG), that is, the increase in species richness from the poles to the equator, is one of the oldest known ecological patterns. Its inverse (iLDG), where species richness increases toward higher latitudes, is less common but has recently attracted growing scientific interest.

This study serves as a proof‐of‐concept, demonstrating that deep shotgun sequencing of a single complex sample—stingless bee larval food—can simultaneously generate multiple genomic resources. From this dataset, we assembled three genomes (a near‐complete bacterium, a draft host mitochondrion, and a fragmented plant chloroplast) with varying ...

Lysozymes are bacteriolytic peptides that are implicated in the insect nonspecific innate immune responses. In this study, a full-length cDNA encoding a c-type lysozyme from Schistocerca gregaria (SgLys) has been cloned and characterized from the fat ...

ABSTRACT Alpine ecosystems are vulnerable to the warming climate, yet alpine soil mesofauna remains the less studied part of NZ biodiversity. Here we present a survey of soil mesofauna communities of three mountain peaks in the Nelson‐Tasman and Marlborough regions of the South Island of New Zealand.

The evolution of thermal performance can constrain dispersal during range shifting [PDF]
Organisms can cope with changing temperature under climate change by either adapting to the temperature at which they perform best and/or by dispersing to more benign locations.
