Phylotranscriptomics confirms Alveopora is sister to Montipora within the family Acroporidae
Marine Genomics, 2020The genus Alveopora is a scleractinian coral taxon whose phylogenetic classification has recently changed from the family Poritidae to Acroporidae. This change, which was made based on single-locus genetic data, has led to uncertainty about the placement of Alveopora and the ability for deep evolutionary relationships in these groups to be accurately ...

Mitogenomic analysis of Montipora cactus and Anacropora matthai (cnidaria; scleractinia; acroporidae) indicates an unequal rate of mitochondrial evolution among Acroporidae corals [PDF]
The complete nucleotide sequence of the mitochondrial (mt) genome was determined for specimens of the coral species Montipora cactus (Bernard 1897) and Anacropora matthai (Pillai 1973), representing two morphologically distinct genera of the family Acroporidae.

Necrotic patches affect Acropora palmata (Scleractinia: Acroporidae) in the Mexican Caribbean [PDF]
An outbreak of necrotic patches was observed affecting Acropora palmata in the Mexican Caribbean in the summer of 1999. This study documents the tissue loss produced by these patches. Following a marked initial increase in the number of patches, there was a decrease in the appearance of new patches but the size of the patches increased throughout the ...

Fluctuating algal symbiont communities in Acropora palifera (Scleractinia: Acroporidae) from Taiwan [PDF]
Seasonal dynamics of algal symbiont communities from the reef flat-dwelling coral Acropora palifera was monitored from January 2000 to July 2001 at Tantzei Bay, Kenting National Park, southern Taiwan. Zooxanthellae density and pigment contents monitored throughout the 18 mo sampling period indicated that no significant bleaching occurred in A. palifera.

Revision of the coral genus Acropora (Scleractinia: Astrocoeniina: Acroporidae) in Indonesia [PDF]
The coral genus Acropora is reviewed from Indonesia for the first time, following detailed collections made at 131 sites and additional material collected from approximately 40 sites throughout the archipelago during the period 1993-6. Eighty-three species are recorded, four of these ( Acropora halmaherae, A. awi, A. plumosa and A.

Separation of highly fluorescent proteins by SDS-PAGE in Acroporidae corals
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology - B Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2002This study characterized the spectral properties of Acropora tenuis, A. nasuta, A. secale, and A. aspera, all of which showed strong colorful fluorescence under ultraviolet light-A (black light). The emission maxima of fluorescence from the intact corals were 517, 482, 484, and 514 nm in A. tenuis, A. nasuta, A. secale, and A.
