Fern spore dispersal: A methodological review and experimental field study

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, Volume 14, Issue 1, January-February 2026.
Abstract Spore dispersal is one of the most important but perhaps the least investigated and understood processes in determining the geographical distribution of fern species. After a methodological review of the aerobiology of fern spores, we examined the impact of spore characteristics and meteorological factors on their airborne dispersal.

Effects of Inorganic Nitrogen Availability on the Sporophytes of Acrostichum Aureum L.

open access: yesPhotosynthetica, 1999
Plants grown at low irradiance were fertilized with 0, 60, and 600 g m-3 NH4NO3 once every fortnight. Plants treated with high N concentrations showed an increased growth, producing longer and broader fronds with larger areas, and were darker green in colour.

Improved assessment of mangrove forests in Sundarbans East Wildlife Sanctuary using WorldView 2 and TanDEM‐X high resolution imagery

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Volume 5, Issue 2, Page 136-149, June 2019., 2019
In this study, we used WorldView2 and TanDEM‐X high‐resolution images for identifying mangrove species in the Sundarbans East Wildlife Sanctuary (SEWS). A total of nine mangrove types were identified with higher overall accuracy (89.33–89.89%) and Kappa coefficient (0.88–0.89) where Heritieria fomes (45%), Excoecaria agallocha (3%), and Sonneratia ...

Hydrological repair and invasive grass removal restore Rhizophora racemosa mangrove communities in West Africa

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, Volume 33, Issue 7, September 2025.
Mangrove ecosystems face significant threats from climate change and human activities. In West Benin, the invasive grass Paspalum vaginatum disrupts sedimentation and hydrology, creating anoxic conditions and nutrient imbalances. To address this, we implemented a cost‐effective restoration strategy focused on hydrological repair, engaging local ...

Community assembly of the ferns of Florida

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 105, Issue 3, Page 549-564, March 2018., 2018
Premise of the Study Many ecological and evolutionary processes shape the assembly of organisms into local communities from a regional pool of species. We analyzed phylogenetic and functional diversity to understand community assembly of the ferns of Florida at two spatial scales.
