Preparation of actinides and actinide compounds

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1982
Abstract Starting materials for actinide research are commercially available oxides. The metals are synthesized by the metallothermic reduction of oxides, halides or carbides. The metals are further refined by vacuum-melting, distillation, van Arkel process or electrorefining to 99.9% purity.

Coprecipitation of Actinides with the Peroxides of other Actinides

ract, 1962
Studies were made of the coprecipitation of tracer quantities of actinides with actinide peroxides. (M.C.G.) The effect of irradiation on the ability of Ni to catalyze the hydrogenation of propylene was investigated. The Ni catalyst was prepared by oxidation in air at 900 deg C for 2 hr, then reduced in hydrogen at 400 deg . It was irradiated at a dose

Recognition of Actinides by Siderocalin

Inorganic Chemistry, 2023
Plain simulations and enhanced sampling unveil a novel siderocalin (Scn) recognition mode for An-Ent (where An = actinides and Ent = enterobactin) complexes and identify a "seesaw" relationship between actinide affinity to Ent and Scn recognition to an An-Ent complex. Electrostatic interactions predominantly govern competitive binding in both processes.

Thermodynamic Properties of Actinides and Actinide Compounds

2007
The necessity of obtaining accurate thermodynamic quantities for the actinide elements and their compounds was recognized at the outset of the Manhattan Project, when a dedicated team of scientists and engineers initiated the program to exploit nuclear energy for military purposes.

Porphyrinoid actinide complexes

Chemical Society Reviews, 2022
The diverse coordination modes and electronic features of actinide complexes of porphyrins and related oligopyrrolic systems (referred to as “porpyrinoids”) have been the subject of interest since the 1960s.

Actinide Organometallic Chemistry

Science, 1976
The stoichiometric and catalytic chemistry of metal-organic compounds having actinide-to-carbon bonds is in a stage of rapid growth. Chemical, structural, and bonding characteristics have been identified which differ in interesting and informative ways from those of d -block transition element compounds.

Environmental Speciation of Actinides

Inorganic Chemistry, 2012
Although minor in abundance in Earth's crust (U, 2-4 ppm; Th, 10-15 ppm) and in seawater (U, 0.003 ppm; Th, 0.0007 ppm), light actinides (Th, Pa, U, Np, Pu, Am, and Cm) are important environmental contaminants associated with anthropogenic activities such as the mining and milling of uranium ores, generation of nuclear energy, and storage of legacy ...
