Pathogenicity of Actinobacillus minor, Actinobacillus indolicus and Actinobacillus porcinus Strains for Gnotobiotic Piglets

Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series B, 2001
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the clinical significance of Actinobacillus minor, Actinobacillus porcinus and Actinobacillus indolicus strains in gnotobiotic piglets. Twenty-two 6-h-old Caesarean-delivered and colostrum-deprived piglets were intranasally and orally inoculated with 2 x 10(6) colony-forming units of an A. minor (group 2; n = 9),

Antimicrobial resistance profile of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Actinobacillus porcitonsillarum

Veterinary Microbiology, 2007
A total of 83 Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and 58 Actinobacillus porcitonsillarum strains collected from slaughtered pigs in Switzerland were screened for susceptibility to 20 antimicrobial agents by MIC determinations. Resistance to sulfamethoxazole, the combination sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, tiamulin, tilmicosin, tetracycline, penicillin and ...

Actinobacillus Actinomycetemcomitans Endocarditis

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1966
IN 1912, Kilinger first described Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans as a bacterial organism occurring in close association with active cases of actinomycosis. Thjotta and Sydves in 1951 reported the first case of human infection in which this organism was the sole infecting agent.

ACTINOBACILLUS BACTEREMIA

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1932
This is a report of the treatment and further study of the case of actinobacillus bacteremia reported by Thompson and Willius in this issue. Since the recovery of the patient was obviously due to the therapy used, it seems advisable to make this report. The patient referred to first presented himself at our office, Aug. 29, 1931. He stated that he had

Endothelial cytotoxicity of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae

Research in Veterinary Science, 1991
The cytotoxicity of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae serotype 1 strain CM5 for porcine and bovine endothelial cells in vitro, was dose-dependent. This strain and its attenuated and avirulent substrain CM5A were equally cytotoxic. The cytotoxicity observed during five hours of exposure of endothelial cells to bacterial products was abolished if the ...

A case of thoracic actinobacillus infection

Respiratory Medicine, 1992
A 50 year-old-man was referred by his family practitioner with a 6-month history of productive cough, a tender lump on the right chest that had been present for 3 weeks, and weight loss of 13 kg over 8 months. He had smoked 20 cigarettes daily for many years and admitted to drinking 8 units of alcohol daily. He kept no pets.

Inducible bacteriophages of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans

Current Microbiology, 1995
Doses of 0.1 to 1.0 micrograms/ml of mitomycin C induced cell lysis of six of eight strains of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans tested. Infectious phages were induced from ATCC strains 43717, 29524, 33384, and 43719; non-plaque-forming, possibly defective phages were induced from ATCC strains 29522 and 29523.

Endocarditis Caused by Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans

Southern Medical Journal, 1979
A case of endocarditis caused by Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is described and 18 cases are reviewed. Clinical features of endocarditis caused by A actinomycetemcomitans and antibiotic susceptibility are reviewed. Because of the relative resistance of A actinomycetemcomitans to penicillin and ampicillin, high doses of either penicillin or ...
