Actinobacillus lignieresii infection in two horses

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1999
A 10-year-old pregnant Norwegian Fjord horse was examined for gross swelling of the muzzle of 2 years' duration. Examination of biopsy specimens revealed diffuse dermal fibrosis, micropustule formation, and vascular thrombosis; large numbers of Actinobacillus lignieresii were isolated in pure culture. Prolonged treatment with i.v.

Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae: pathobiology and pathogenesis of infection

Microbes and Infection, 2002
Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae causes porcine pleuropneumonia, a highly contagious disease for which there is no effective vaccine. This review considers how adhesins, iron-acquisition factors, capsule and lipopolysaccharide, RTX cytotoxins and other potential future vaccine components contribute to colonisation, to avoidance of host clearance ...

Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans infection in the oral cavity

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1981
An abscess that developed following the extraction of periodontally involved teeth persisted after surgical drainage and ampicillin therapy. Subsequent culture of pus from this abscess gave a pure growth of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans which was resistant to ampicillin. Surgical drainage and the use of appropriate antibiotic therapy cleared the

Infection Due toActinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1971
Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans , an unusual Gram-negative coccobacillus, was isolated from the blood cultures of two patients. One patient with multiple myeloma and pneumonia was successfully treated with ampicillin. The other, with bacterial endocarditis, but without a previous history of heart disease, responded to kanamycin therapy ...

Actinobacillus suis infection in pigs in Australia

Australian Veterinary Journal, 2000
This is the first report of the isolation of Actinobacillus suis in association with significant disease among preweaned pigs in Australia. Sudden deaths occurred in preweaned piglets at one facility and enlarged joints, particularly the stifles and tarsi, occurred at another.

Actinobacillus suisinfection of horses

New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 1982
Nineteen isolates of Actinobacillus suis were recovered from horses during the period October 1978-December 1980. Animals varied in age from a full term foetus to 12 years. One isolate was obtained from the nose of an apparently healthy horse, the remainder were obtained from still-born foetuses (2), foals dying within a week of birth (5), older ...

Hand infection caused by Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1986
A case of chronic wrist synovitis and subcutaneous abscess of the hand caused by Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is described. There are no previous reports in the literature of hand infections secondary to this unusual bacteria.

Systemic Infection Due toActinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1973
Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is a small Gram-negative aerobic bacillus of the family Parvobacteriaceae Rahn. This organism has in the past been regarded as a rare cause of infection in man. A case which demonstrates the potential of this organism for aggressive invasiveness in an uncompromised host is reported.

Transdiaphragmatic Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans Infection: Case Report

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1994
To our knowledge, we report the first case of transdiaphragmatic Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans infection in which the patient presented with an abdominal tumor. The clinical manifestation of this infection was similar to that of Actinomyces israelii infection and was initially misinterpreted as a malignancy.

Clonal Infection with Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans Following Periodontal Therapy

Journal of Dental Research, 1999
Mechanical debridement results in a shift of the bacterial composition in the periodontal pocket on the species level. It is unknown, however, whether a clonal change within a species could lead to the emergence of strains with different levels of virulence.
