Antigenic relatedness among human strains of oral Actinomyces and similar isolates from cattle has been analyzed by agglutination and immunoblotting. Whole cell agglutination placed A. viscosus serotype II, A. naeslundii serotypes II and III, Actinomyces NV, and strains from numerical taxomonic clusters C1, C2, C3, C4, and C6 into a single group.

Ultrastructure of Actinomyces viscosus and Actinomyces naeslundii
Archives of Oral Biology, 1974Abstract Electron micrographs of freeze-etched, thin-sectioned, shadowed and negatively-stained cells were presented. Fibril-like structures were observed on the outer surface of both organisms in all preparations. Thin sections revealed a layered cell wall in both microbes, but the layering was particularly distinct in A. naeslundii .

Actinomyces viscosus and Actinomyces naeslundii agglutinins in human saliva
European Journal of Oral Sciences, 1983Abstract – The objectives were to determine the degree of Actinomyces agglutinating activity in human saliva and to begin characterizing the agglutination mechanism. Agglutination titres of whole saliva collected from adults and 6‐yr‐old children were compared. Titres for A. naeslundii were always higher than for A. viscosus. The mean A.

There are few reports on the bacterial species Actinomyces radicidentis in the literature. In this study, putative A. radicidentis isolates were collected from 16 root canal samples from 601 examined patients. The isolates were examined by biochemical tests, 16S rRNA gene sequencing, Arbitrarily-primed (AP-) PCR, antibiotic susceptibility testing, and ...

INFECTION OF WOUNDS WITH ACTINOMYCES
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 19511. Six cases of infection of wounds with actinomyces are described alld tile cultural characteristics of tile organisms are discussed. 2. In three patients the infecting organism was an unusual aerobic form. 3. Possible sources of infection are considered. 4. The chronicity of the condition and the difficulty in treatment are stressed.

Actinomyces in Forensic Practice
American Journal of Forensic Medicine & Pathology, 2020Abstract A 19-year-old woman in septic shock with recent computed tomography findings of a loculated hepatic abscess was transferred to an intensive care unit where she went into asystolic cardiac arrest. After resuscitation, surgical exploration revealed a purulent pericardial effusion with tamponade and a liver abscess.

Actinomyces and Intrauterine Devices
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1982To the Editor.— It was with interest that we read the recent editorial on Actinomyces in vaginal smears (1982; 247:1175), suggesting that women who had Actinomyces -positive smears should use a contraceptive method other than the intrauterine device (IUD). This report was publicized in the British lay press.

Streptothrix has frequently been found in the canaliculus (Morax1and others), but its occurrence in other parts of the conjunctival sac has less commonly been observed. When present it usually produces granulomatous nodules on the bulbar conjunctiva (de Walsche,2Denti3and Liegard4) or on the retrotarsal folds (Bakly5).

Pulmonary actinomyces in a child
Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, 1985Abstract Pulmonary actinomycosis is rare in Australian children. A patient with the condition is described in whom a diagnosis was made by open lung biopsy. She was treated successfully with penicillin and tetracycline.

A Comparison of Strains of Bacteria Designated Actinomyces viscosus and Actinomyces naeslundii
Caries Research, 2009The similarity between A. viscosus serotype II and A. naeslundii has been noted by several workers. Apart from many common physiological characteristics, antigenic cross-reactions are known to occur. The increase in the use of these organisms experimentally makes it important to establish the relationships within the type strains, and those of the ...
