Ultrastructure of Actinomyces viscosus and Actinomyces naeslundii

Archives of Oral Biology, 1974
Abstract Electron micrographs of freeze-etched, thin-sectioned, shadowed and negatively-stained cells were presented. Fibril-like structures were observed on the outer surface of both organisms in all preparations. Thin sections revealed a layered cell wall in both microbes, but the layering was particularly distinct in A. naeslundii .

Antigenic Relationships among Oral Actinomyces Isolates, Actinomyces naeslundii genospecies 1 and 2, Actinomyces howellii, Actinomyces denticolens, and Actinomyces slackii

Journal of Dental Research, 1993
Antigenic relatedness among human strains of oral Actinomyces and similar isolates from cattle has been analyzed by agglutination and immunoblotting. Whole cell agglutination placed A. viscosus serotype II, A. naeslundii serotypes II and III, Actinomyces NV, and strains from numerical taxomonic clusters C1, C2, C3, C4, and C6 into a single group.

Actinomyces viscosus and Actinomyces naeslundii agglutinins in human saliva

European Journal of Oral Sciences, 1983
Abstract – The objectives were to determine the degree of Actinomyces agglutinating activity in human saliva and to begin characterizing the agglutination mechanism. Agglutination titres of whole saliva collected from adults and 6‐yr‐old children were compared. Titres for A. naeslundii were always higher than for A. viscosus. The mean A.

Actinomyces and Intrauterine Devices

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1982
To the Editor.— It was with interest that we read the recent editorial on Actinomyces in vaginal smears (1982; 247:1175), suggesting that women who had Actinomyces -positive smears should use a contraceptive method other than the intrauterine device (IUD). This report was publicized in the British lay press.

Actinomyces in Forensic Practice

American Journal of Forensic Medicine & Pathology, 2020
Abstract A 19-year-old woman in septic shock with recent computed tomography findings of a loculated hepatic abscess was transferred to an intensive care unit where she went into asystolic cardiac arrest. After resuscitation, surgical exploration revealed a purulent pericardial effusion with tamponade and a liver abscess.
