Initial catabolism of sorbitol in Actinomyces naeslundii and Actinomyces viscosus

Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 1994
The initial steps of sorbitol catabolism were studied in 4 strains of Actinomyces naeslundii and Actinomyces viscosus that had been isolated from human dental plaque. Cell‐free extracts were prepared from cells grown in the presence of either sorbitol, xylitol or glucose.

The Function and Distribution of Different Fimbriae on Strains of Actinomyces viscosus and Actinomyces naeslundii

Journal of Dental Research, 1984
Actinomyces viscosus and Actinomyces naeslundii differ in their abilities to colonize tooth and epithelial surfaces. These differences appear to be associated with the distribution of different fimbriae on the two species and with the distinct adherence-related functions of these structures.
