Spinal epidural abscess due to Actinomyces israelii

open access: yesNeurology, 1981
A 31-year-old man had back pain, weight loss, fever, and paraplegia, with radiographic evidence of a left upper lobe lesion and lytic lesions in ribs and vertebral bodies. Gallium uptake was increased over the spine. At surgery we found a paraspinal abscess due to Actinomyces israelii. The patient responded to surgery and penicillin therapy.

Antimicrobial in Vitro Susceptibility of Actinomyces Israelii and Arachnia Propionica

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1977
46 reference strains and clinical isolated of Actinomyces israelli and 8 strains of Arachnia propionica--the causative microorganisms of actinomycosis in man--were tested for their in vitro susceptibility to penicillin, sulfaisodimidine, erythromycin, tetracycline, lincomycin, clindamycin, metronidazole and tinidazole by the agar dilution method.

In vitro bactericidal effect of Nd:YAG laser on Actinomyces israelii

open access: yesLasers in Medical Science, 2012
A bactericidal effect has been reported by the use of near-infrared laser light on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Nd:YAG laser on Actinomyces israelii, filamentous bacteria causing cervicofacial actinomycosis.

Actinomyces israelii-associated salpingitis

European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, 1986
Actinomyces israelii was identified in samples from the oviducts of 4/100 women with salpingitis diagnosed by laparoscopy. All four cases healed on 'routine' treatment. Possible pathogenic mechanisms for the development of actinomycosis are discussed.

Actinomyces israelii endocarditis misidentified as “Diptheroids”

Anaerobe, 2010
Actinomyces is a rare cause of endocarditis, however misidentification as Cornyebacteria often hampers the diagnosis.

Pericarditis with Effusion Caused by Actinomyces israelii

Chest, 1976
Actinomyces israelii is a rare cause of pericarditis. Infection spreads to pericardium from an intrathoracic focus. Branching gram-positive filaments are seen on microscopic examination of clinical specimens. Cultures should be performed under anaerobic conditions.

Actinomyces israelii endogenous endophthalmitis

British Journal of Ophthalmology, 2008
Actinomyces species are anaerobic Gram-positive pleomorphic rods that are commensals of the oral flora and facultative pathogens.1 In ophthalmological practice, Actinomyces are typically associated with canaliculitis. Although these organisms have rarely been described as causative agents of postoperative endophthalmitis, they have not yet, to our ...

Periapical actinomycosis involving Actinomyces israelii

Journal of Endodontics, 1988
Actinomyces organisms are common commensalsof the oral cavity, but the disease actinomycosis is uncommon, and local predisposing factors are thought to be important in the etiology. Although it has been shown that organisms are commonly present in infected root canals, infection in the periapical tissues is unusual. When this occurs, diagnosis has been
