The evolutionary origins of volition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
It appears to be a straightforward implication of distributed cognition principles that there is no integrated executive control system (e.g. Brooks 1991, Clark 1997). If distributed cognition is taken as a credible paradigm for cognitive science this in

Industrial application of fuzzy systems; adaptive fuzzy control of solder paste stencil printing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This paper presents an adaptive fuzzy control algorithm for the control of the solder paste stencil printing stage of surface mount printed circuit board assembly.

Brainstem Circuits Controlling Action Diversification [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Neuroscience, 2019
Neuronal circuits that regulate movement are distributed throughout the nervous system. The brainstem is an important interface between upper motor centers involved in action planning and circuits in the spinal cord ultimately leading to execution of body movements.

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Extending Feynman's Formalisms for Modelling Human Joint Action Coordination

open access: yes, 2009
The recently developed Life-Space-Foam approach to goal-directed human action deals with individual actor dynamics. This paper applies the model to characterize the dynamics of co-action by two or more actors. This dynamics is modelled by: (i) a two-term

Patient‐Level Barriers and Facilitators to Inpatient Physical Therapy in Adolescents and Young Adults With a Hematological Malignancy: A Qualitative Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Despite their increased risk for functional impairment resulting from cancer and its treatments, few adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with a hematological malignancy receive the recommended or therapeutic dose of exercise per week during inpatient hospitalizations.

The face inhibition effect: Social contrast or motor competition? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Merely viewing the faces of famous athletes affects the observers' motor system, suggesting that actionbased information is a core feature of person representations, even when no specific action is visible (Bach & Tipper, 2006).

Understanding psychosocial determinants of malaria behaviours in low-transmission settings: a scoping review

open access: yesMalaria Journal
Background Recent estimates show progress toward malaria elimination is slowing in many settings, underscoring the need for tailored approaches to fight the disease.

La dissonance motivationnelle ou l’impact d’un environnement hautement dynamique sur la motivation des enseignants de langues

open access: yesLidil, 2009
This paper deals with a motivational factor which has rarely been empirically explored: action control. Our theoretical reflection emerges from one survey carried out in three French secondary schools. We have compared teachers’ activity in a traditional

Evidence for a Selective Influence of Short-Term Experiences on the Retrieval of Item-Specific Long-Term Bindings

open access: yesJournal of Cognition, 2022
Human behavior is guided by prior experience such as bindings between stimuli and responses. Experimentally, this is evident in performance changes when features of the stimulus-response episode reoccur either in the short-term or in the long-term.
