Use of Pd/activated carbon fiber catalyst to dehydrogenate cyclohexane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this work, activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were prepared from polyacrylonitrile fibers, Pd catalyst was loaded onto the ACFs. The BET surface areas noted before activation were in the range of 120-140 m2/g.

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Improving the desorption efficiency of styrene based on inorganic inhibitor modified activated carbon

open access: yes矿业科学学报
When activated carbons containing carbon-carbon double bond reactive VOCs such as saturated styrene are thermally desorbed, it is easy to form macromolecular polymers at high temperatures to block the pores of activated carbon and reduce the adsorption ...

HYDROGEN SULFIDE ADSORPTION BY ALKALINE IMPREGNATED COCONUT SHELL ACTIVATED CARBON [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Science and Technology, 2013
Biogas is one type of renewable energy which can be burnt to produce heat and electricity. However, it cannot be burnt directly due to the presence of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) which is highly corrosive to gas engine.

Synthesis of Hydrotalcite-Like Material and its Complexes with Activated Carbon for Colour Removal [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Hydrotalcite-like material and its complexes with activated carbon were prepared using activated carbon bought from a local manufacturer. The resulting material and its precursor were used as an adsorbent for removal of colour from natural peat water.

Nano-Engineering Defect Structures on Graphene

open access: yes, 2008
We present a new way of nano-engineering graphene using defect domains. These regions have ring structures that depart from the usual honeycomb lattice, though each carbon atom still has three nearest neighbors.

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...
