An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Municipal activation policy: A case study of the practical work with unemployed social assistance recipients [PDF]

open access: yes
In the 1990s, many municipalities developed local activation programs for social assistance recipients as a response to increasing social assistance expenditures.

Double-walled carbon nanotubes trigger IL-1β release in human monocytes through Nlrp3 inflammasome activation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Because of their outstanding physical properties, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are promising new materials in the field of nanotechnology. It is therefore imperative to assess their adverse effects on human health.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Role of phosphoinositide 3-kinases in mast cell activation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Mast cells are primary effector cells in allergy and chronic inflammation. Class IB (PI3Kγ) and class IA (PI3Kδ) PI3K have been shown to play major roles in mast cell activation: antigen/IgE stimulation triggers autocrine/paracrine activation of mast ...

ACE2 ACTIVATION PROMOTES ANTITHROMBOTIC ACTIVITY

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2009
Hyperactivity of the axis ACE/AngII/AT1R of the renin‐angiotensin system is associated with occurrence of acute thrombotic event. Recently a novel concept of a counterrugulatory axis, ACE2/Ang‐(1‐7)/Mas, has emerged. We hypothesized that ACE2 would be protective against thrombosis.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Word Activation Forces Map Word Networks

open access: yes, 2011
Words associate with each other in a manner of intricate clusters^1-3^. Yet the brain capably encodes the complex relations into workable networks^4-7^ such that the onset of a word in the brain automatically and selectively activates its associates ...

Notch2 controls developmental fate choices between germinal center and marginal zone B cells upon immunization

open access: yesNature Communications
Sustained Notch2 signals induce trans-differentiation of Follicular B (FoB) cells into Marginal Zone B (MZB) cells in mice, but the physiology underlying this differentiation pathway is still elusive.

Moss Biomonitoring in the Evaluation of Air Pollution in the Tver Region, Russia

open access: yesAtmosphere
In the Tver region (Russia), the moss biomonitoring technique was applied to investigate the atmospheric deposition of potentially harmful elements. Using inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectroscopy and a direct mercury analyzer, a total of ...
