Determination of activation volumes of reversal in perpendicular media [PDF]
We discuss a method for the determination of activation volumes of reversal in perpendicular media. This method does not require correction for the self-demagnetizing field normally associated with these media.

Loss of strength in Ni3Al at elevated temperatures [PDF]
Stress decrease above the stress peak temperature (750 K) is studied in h123i single crystals of Ni3(Al, 3 at.% Hf ). Two thermally activated deformation mechanisms are evidenced on the basis of stress relaxation and strain rate change experiments.

Molecular Imaging of Microglial Activation in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis [PDF]
There is growing evidence of activated microglia and inflammatory processes in the cerebral cortex in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Activated microglia is characterized by increased expression of the 18 kDa translocator protein (TSPO) in the brain

Volume Effects on the Glass Transition Dynamics [PDF]
The role of jamming (steric constraints) and its relationship to the available volume is addressed by examining the effect that certain modifications of a glass-former have on the ratio of its isochoric and isobaric activation enthalpies.

Theoretical strength and homogeneous sliding in metallic glass: exactly solvable model
At low temperature, T→0, the yield stress of a perfect crystal is equal to its so-called theoretical strength. The yield stress of nonperfect crystals is controlled by the stress threshold of dislocation mobility.

A Novel fMRI Paradigm Suggests that Pedaling-related Brain Activation is Altered after Stroke [PDF]
The purpose of this study was to examine the feasibility of using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to measure pedaling-related brain activation in individuals with stroke and age-matched controls.

Additional studies on heterodiffusion coefficients in periclase [PDF]
By using a thermodynamical model, the activation entropy is extracted from the experimental diffusion data of Al in MgO. Furthermore, we estimate the activation volume. We find a value for the activation entropy of (4.21 ± 0.05) k.
