Physical Activity-Based Methodologies as a Physical Education Resource for Inhibitory Control: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Intelligence
Physical activity-based methodologies have been proposed as educational tools to improve executive functions, although their impact on early years and primary education has not yet been fully assessed.

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

Beyond the Desk: Effects of the BALA+ Classroom-Based Intervention on Primary School Children

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study examined the effects of the BALA+ intervention, using a non-randomized, quasi-experimental controlled design with repeated measures on physical, motivational, and psychological outcomes among 100 fifth-grade students assessed at three time ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Oceanographic Considerations for the Management and Protection of Surfing Breaks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Although the physical characteristics of surfing breaks are well described in the literature, there is little specific research on surfing and coastal management.

Influence of Intraoperative Active and Passive Breaks in Simulated Minimally Invasive Procedures on Surgeons’ Perceived Discomfort, Performance, and Workload

open access: yesLife
Laparoscopic surgeons are at high risk of experiencing musculoskeletal discomfort, which is considered the result of long-lasting static and awkward body postures.

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Are there Structural Breaks in Realized Volatility? [PDF]

open access: yes
Constructed from high-frequency data, realized volatility (RV) provides an efficient estimate of the unobserved volatility of financial markets. This paper uses a Bayesian approach to investigate the evidence for structural breaks in reduced form time ...

Effects of physical activity breaks on cognitive function in undergraduate students: a pilot study

open access: yesCogent Social Sciences
Physical activity is known to have several cognitive benefits. As a result, many teachers introduce short bouts of physical activity (active breaks) during their lessons.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...
