Repair of single-strand breaks during the cell cycle - saturation of repair capacity

open access: yesNucleus
Imaging of recruitment of XRCC1 and PCNA to a predetermined number of DNA single-strand breaks (SSB) demonstrates that (i) short-patch base excision repair is active throughout the whole cell cycle and repairs SSBs in over 60% of nonreplicating cells ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Trend Breaks and Seasonality in the Yugoslav Black Market for Dollars, 1974-1987 [PDF]

open access: yes
We estimate a model of the black market premium for dollars in Yugoslavia from 1974-1987. Unlike previous applications of the model, our analysis addresses nonstationarity in the underlying data by allowing for trend breaks.

Active breaks as a physical education strategy to develop attention, concentration and attentional variability in higher education

open access: yesBMC Psychology
Background Active breaks are an effective tool for introducing physical activity into the classroom and improving students’ physical and mental health. This study aims (a) to evaluate changes in attention, concentration and attentional stability levels ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Teachers’ perceptions of the implementation of active breaks in the classroom: Is being active so important? [PDF]

open access: yes
Active breaks can be a reference framework for promoting physical activity at schools, hence the important of ascertaining which variables can promote or hinder their implementation.

Versatile vector tools for efficient protein screening across multiple expression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A unified vector toolkit enables rapid protein expression screening across E. coli, insect, and mammalian cells. A single primer pair amplifies the target gene, which is inserted into any vector via a standardized interface. This streamlined workflow eliminates repeated cloning steps, accelerating the identification of optimal expression conditions for

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.

Structural Breaks in the Real Exchange Rate and Real Interest Rate Relationship [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we empirically examine the relationship between the real exchange rate and real interest rate differentials using recent econometric methods robust to potential structural breaks.
