Dike detection using active contour model

IGARSS 2003. 2003 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37477), 2004
A dike detection method based on active contour model is introduced in this paper for our flood management project. Experimental result on DEM (Digital Elevation Model) of Jingjiang River of China shows that a continuous and closed dike description could be gotten by this method.

Facial boundary detection with an active contour model

Pattern Recognition Letters, 2007
This paper presents an active contour model for extracting accurate facial regions in complex environments. In the model, a contour is represented by a zero level set of level function @f, and evolved via level set partial differential equations. Then, unlike general active contours, skin-color information that is represented by 2D-Gaussian model is ...

Clustering-based control of active contour model

Object recognition supported by user interaction for service robots, 2003
To extract object regions from images, the methods using region-based active contour model (ACM) have been proposed. By controlling ACM with the statistical characteristics of the image properties, these methods effect robust region extraction. However the existing methods require redundant processing and cannot adapt to complex scene images.

Region-based strategies for active contour models

International Journal of Computer Vision, 1994
The variational method has been introduced by Kass et al. (1987) in the field of object contour modeling, as an alternative to the more traditional edge detection-edge thinning-edge sorting sequence. Since the method is based on a pre-processing of the image to yield an edge map, it shares the limitations of the edge detectors it uses.

Active contour model for extracting human faces

Proceedings. Fourteenth International Conference on Pattern Recognition (Cat. No.98EX170), 2002
In this paper, we propose a facial contour extraction model. The influence of environmental changes on the model is small, and it is based on an active contour model (ACM). Our method has three characteristics: global shape constraint of axis-symmetry, dual-scale filtering and iterative initialization.

Protein Surface Modeling Using Active Contour Model

2008
A PDE (partial differential equation) based method, 3D active contour model, is presented to model the surface of protein structure. Instead of generating a single molecular surface, we create a series of surfaces associated with the atomic energy inside the protein, which describe different resolutions of molecular surface.

Active contour model based on mathematical morphology

Proceedings. Fourteenth International Conference on Pattern Recognition (Cat. No.98EX170), 2002
A novel method of the active contour model is proposed by introducing the mathematical morphological operations on the "contour object", which is a binary image object whose outline is the contour. The contours are shrunk and expanded by simply applying the mathematical morphological operations on the contour objects.
