Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Enhance of Energy Harvesting from Transverse Galloping by Actively Rotating the Galloping Body

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Kinematic rotary control is here proposed conceptually to enhance energy harvesting from Transverse Galloping. The effect of actively orientating the galloping body with respect to the incident flow, by imposing externally a rotation of the body ...

Active control transport design criteria [PDF]

open access: yes
Vehicle design considerations for active control applications to subsonic transports are examined. Active control is defined along with those functions which are considered in the study of design criteria. The FAA regulations governing transport aircraft

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A Novel Fractional-Order Chaotic Phase Synchronization Model for Visual Selection and Shifting

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
Visual information processing is one of the fields of cognitive informatics. In this paper, a two-layer fractional-order chaotic network, which can simulate the mechanism of visual selection and shifting, is established.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Finite element analysis of an actively controlled heavy rotor using a PVDF piezoelectric layer as a sensor and actuator

open access: yesEngineering Reports, 2020
Reduction in the torsional vibration of heavy rotors (eg, turbo‐generator rotors) is important for the safe and efficient functioning of the power plant.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Optimization of damage repair with piezoelectric actuators using the Taguchi method

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity
Over the last two decades, piezoelectric actuators have emerged as a promising solution for structural repair. In this work, initially the stress intensity factor (SIF) estimation using the finite element (FE) approach at crack tips in aluminium 2024-T3 ...
