In the geotechnical engineering, the tensile failure of soil is disregarded for a long time. Actually, the tensile strength of soil is very low and the tensile failure really occurs, especially in the slope engineering.

Stakeholder Activism, Managerial Entrenchment, and the Congruence of Interests between Shareholders and Stakeholders [PDF]
We argue that when stakeholder protection is left to the voluntary initiative of managers, concessions to social activists and pressure groups can turn into a self-entrenchment strategy for incumbent CEOs.

Accelerated Progression of Gait Impairment in Parkinson's Disease and REM Sleep Without Atonia
ABSTRACT Objective People with Parkinson's disease (PD) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep without atonia (RSWA) often have more severe gait disturbances compared to PD without RSWA. The association between the presence and expression of RSWA and the rate of progression of gait impairment in PD is unknown.

A note on determining seismic active earth pressures
For gravity retaining walls supporting cohesionless backfill, a limitation of the validity of Coulomb and Mononobe-Okabe methods for determining static and seismic static-equivalent active earth thrusts, is analysed. It is shown that beyond a certain inclination of the back of the retaining walls, those classic methods are not valid.

The McCance Brain Care Score and Mortality: Evidence From a Large‐Scale Population‐Based Cohort
ABSTRACT Objectives This study aimed to examine the relationship between the McCance Brain Care Score (BCS) and mortality in the general population. Methods We conducted a prospective, population‐based cohort study using data from the UK Biobank. Participants with complete data enabling calculation of BCS and full mortality information were included ...
